If you plan on picking up the F-16 just remember that its in Early Access and has a lot of development still to go, but even in its current state its one of the best BVR aircraft out there in the sim.

I am curious as to the way in which you follow through engagements. At least in personal experience, I keep my vision down and zoomed in to see the FCR and HSD page to gain a constant read on the enemy's speed, direction and altitude, without actually looking out of the cockpit. This way I can keep the target at the gimbal edge, and better estimate how much energy the enemy's missile will have, adjusting dive angle accordingly. But I notice you don't do that. What's the way about your methodology and would you say it's a better technique ?

Thats the biggest issue with dcs, its just a mix of 60s to early 2000s techology with no red side planes that can match the blue. The mirage 2000 is a 80s plane it has no chance against a early 2000s f16. So there is no option to make realistic pvp scenarios unless you remove the best sales pitchs for the game as the f16 f18 and a10. So on the pvp server that i love btw, its blue vs blue if you want a good match.

@Blaze By "Garbage" he means "Missiles that require actual skill to use unlike Amraams that are literally a question of "Am I in the RNE to kill, or not?". Sidewinder doesn't use proper BVR tactics, and is riding full burner for minutes at at time for no reason... don't learn from this just because he's getting kills on oblivious scrubs with no SA. He could and should be taking shots on these guys without getting so close that they could switch back onto him any moment and kill him, as at the speed he's going, he can't evade. If half of these guys had shot back, the video would have ended way earlier. The Mirage pilot wasn't trying to hit him with that tail aspect missile: He was trying to lure GS into breaking away and turning-... and being honest, given GS overflew him, that missile probably got pretty close too. You never choose to just "ignore" a BVR capable fighter you're hot on at under 20nmi. He got lucky the guy didn't snag him till after he was past, or he'd have eaten that "Garbage missile".

@@Eleolius Completely agree with you. The Magic IR missiles are one of the best missiles of their class in DCS before the Aim9-X and the Super 530D are the best Fox 1s with crazy ranges when flown high and fast. The Mirage itself is an amazing platform with a great radar, close to the Viper in real life (in DCS the Viper radar will be downgraded as it is overperforming a lot, the Hornet already got its reality pass in the radar). The M2000C is a mid-80s beast, put a mid-80s Viper (so just Fox 2) against a Mirage and he will be dead most of the time. We are comparing planes that are more than 20 years apart, that's almost like comparing a BF 109 K-4 to a Phantom: both amazing planes but they belong to their era. Also GS is not using proper tactics here, he is just using gamey approach to DCS which is full afterburner everywhere and take advantage of the overperforming Viper radar. Furthermore, as you rightly said, at those speeds he would have eaten a missile easily as he can't manoeuvre at all and the closure speed with the missile would be crazy. I would like to see him in DDCS or Blue Flag and even better, Blue Flag 80s. The least he could do is not mocking the other players. I like GS content but making fun of other players while using an OP platform is not very chivalrous from his part.

If it's alright, I'd like to recommend a historical challenge for you. During the Iran-Iraq War, Iranian AH-1Js shot down three Iraqi MiG-21s using their 20mm. One was by AH-1J pilots Esmail Sehati and Mohammad Sahrai on February 14th, 1986. If you could kill a MiG-21 in an AH-1J, particularly with the 20mm, that would be sick.

I really do hope they update the Vipers flight model soon. I was talking to my dad about it (former Viper pilot) and he was saying that the one in DCS is almost the exact opposite of what it should be. (In DCS it’s Good for BVR and trash in the merge)

I'd guess they created the flightmodel based on the best non classified data they had, so unless someone can provide better information it's probably going to stay the way it is. And by information I mean actual test data/numbers, not pilots opinions(as much as I respect them, they just cannot be as objective as data)

Do you think or know of someone working on a mod to implement the F-15EX? If so that's probably gonna end up being a monster at BVR if they do it right. The new one should have data link and an EW suite similar to what is on the real life F-22, right? Or at least data link. But loved the "2 miles, where is he? There he is." Splash. Yeah, he left 3rd stage on for no reason half the time XD. He also didn't maintain the F16's proper altitude for a lot of his flying too. He was just AirQuake mode in this video. He easily could have had 6k+ fuel left at end of video and made it home if he'd flown the plane remotely properly. The F16's 2nd stage afterburner tends to do about as well for maintaining level flight mach speeds about 30% less fuel wasting, especially at low/mid altitude.

Was a little mystified GS didn't use proper WVR radar. He knew azimuth and relative alt, all he had to do was hit dogfight switch to bore or Vscan and do a left roll, and he'd have had him at 8, and shot sooner. Fumbling with the radar -should- have cost him that kill, and should have gotten him killed by the other guy who, like almost everyone in this video, seem to completely ignore their SA cues.

How do you learn to SEE the planes at distance? Is it the same as learning in operation flashpoint? I put on my glasses, usually play in VR with a reverb, but even watching these videos a lot of the time my eyes just aren't picking up the enemy plane....

Well in the videos specifically that's probably a problem of KZfaq compression. KZfaq tries to save data and that just means we can't really see small objects in videos. In game it is worth remembering that he is finding them on radar, seeing their contrails, and zooming in full on where they are, and i imagine most of the time he hasn't really identified the target visually, some rwrs will literally tell you what the plane is that's looking at you, and he also just has a good idea of how pilots of these jets act, seeing as they normally play to their strengths.

@01000110 !I don't know if the v9 is better than the 73, and that was also not what I said. The F-16 in DCS has not received the v9, but has the v8. I don't know why. And as it is, the v8 is wildly over performing. Even the v8 should not be this much better than the 73.

Can someone tell me how can I learn how to play DCS with the F16. I want to play using XBOX controller + keyboard and mouse. I have some experience with flight sims I have played Microsoft FLight simulator 2020 and was able to land an Airbus A320 neo on a controller. My only problem is how to fly the plane and how all the buttons work.

Not in DCS current form. The F16 suffers excessive drag in many configurations and under high AOA, and it's energy retention and recovery are also still well below real parameters. It almost always loses to inferior dogfighters like Hornets, M2000Cs. An F16 should have a significant vertical maneuvering advantage over a Hornet. It doesn't in DCS. (Though I am uncertain if this is due to F16 inadequacy or them over doing the hornet.)

Do any of the flankers have much of a chance against an f16? I've had very poor luck in bvr engagements against them in my flanker, Amraams seem much harder to dodge than I really know how to.

the flanker is really at a massive disadvantage against the viper. when I'm in the F-16 if I see a flanker I know I'm going to kill him, very rarely do they get away from the viper.

@@auqanova you need to wait till Viper radar (the version we have in game) is nerfed. situation in BVR should be somewhat different (Viper still has its Amraams though) ;)

Afterburned consumes a lot of fuel and the F-16 is not the biggest aircrafts of the world (so it got small fuel tanks) Thats why military pilots only use them if they must unlike some people in games wo use them 100% of tge time because it looks cool.
