On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.

I remember a while back that the alleged story circulating around the internet about those kill markings was that they weren't actually kill markings. Apparently, demonstration teams that fly with multiple different types of planes sometimes paint the silhouettes of planes they fly alongside on the nose. No idea if this is actually true or not, but it would make sense given those heritage flights where you have A10s flying alongside P51s, F16s, F22s, and F35s.

@@HiIeric117 They're next to a bunch of silhouettes of ground vehicles though, which are the natural prey of the A-10. It would seem a bit weird to put those markings next to the things you normally kill if they're meant to be for honorary purposes rather than kill markings.

F-22 is not a dogfighter. A-10 is probably the most maneuverable aircraft. The F-22 can match the speed and maneuverability, but shear size is where it would struggle with an A-10 in close combat...but this would never happen as the F-22 would just come out of nowhere and snipe it. It's a long distance predator and then if needed slide in unaware and drop you.

I recently lived near davis-monthan, home of the boneyard, and home of an a-10 wing. The a-10 was the only plane i didnt mind buzzing my house, awesome machine. Every time I'd hear that turbofan spool up I'd think of Apocalypse now 'sounds like victory'. I know he says smell, but that whine is just so distinctive.

To be honest I think the Raptor had the advantage, the F-22 pilot was initially scared to pull hard on the stick and go that slow with an A-10 but in the last round the Raptor was getting all kinds of angles it wasn’t even fair, and in the first round the Raptor demonstrated how it can go slower than the A-10 and still maneuver. I think maybe if the Raptor pilot decides he wants to pull harder he can and the only real thing stopping em is fear.

Unlike A-10s, Raptors and other fighter craft generally are manufactured with unstable flight characteristics to improve maneuverability at speed, but the A-10 has so much surface area that's dedicated to lift and control surfaces there's no surprise to me its a fantastic glider.

You know what's great? The A-10's engines basically produce no thrust and thus no heat as well, therefor sidewinders always miss. That at 10:09 obviously happened because of the heat signature of the pilot.

REALLY COOL how the F-22 was literally "riding the bumper" of the A-10 during the crash landing @ ~12:00 mark or so...can see the F-22 so close if only could have stomped on the brakes and caused a rear-end collision...the local PD would definitely given the F-22 a ticket for being so close :-)

I wanna see this in a movie. An A-10 is the last plane that needs to attack an objective to save the world, but the enemy in their desperation launched an F-22 clone as fast as they could with no missiles. The A-10 with radar support from a captured radar station is alerted where the F-22 clone is inbound from, and the fight begins.

I remember some A10 pilots talking about the F16 kill. The pilot didn't know how to handle to slow turns of the A10. The senior dude basically said it's easy if you know what you're doing, which is simply to create space so the A10 can't turn into your, which it likely always will.

I believe they also run scenarios where the f22 starts at a MASSIVE disadvantage. This is to test the pilot under pressure but results is unusual wins. An example of this is the viper 'win' against a pre production f35 that had very limited weapons systems fitted, the engine power limited... also no stealth coating applied

I guess it's good that I always kind-of assumed that the Hog would be surprising in a dogfight. Definitely not built for speed, but speed doesn't always win a dogfight. Big, chunky control surfaces and a low stall speed means you can't approach it like it's an easy target.
