Grumpy hippo sprays poop at lion pride

Rongai pride found a hippo in the pool all alone and proceeded to provoke him. The hippo being very aggressive and territorial proceeded to charge at the pride who were just playing and messing with the big herbivore. The hippo then sprayed urine and poop to mark his territory and to warn the lion pride not to come any closer.

@@eshw23Not even close to being true. Lions do hunt , attack, kill and consume hippos more frequently in relative to their abundance. Sub adults, huge females and even huge old males hippos are frequently hunted by lion prides and duo male lions and killed. According to reports from Selinda, the lions that became stranded on the opposite bank during the hippo encounter eventually crossed at a different point and the pride was able to attack and kill a hippo the following day.

Watched this KZfaq video, around five years ago, of a lion pride trying to bring down a large sized hippo. It was a big pride of lions, and it looked to me like they would succeed, given that a large pride of lions can bring down a giraffe, or mid-sized elephants. Out of nowhere, the hippo brutally bit one of the lionesses on it's head, almost splitting the lionesses head into two. The pride of lions did not see that coming. Neither did I. It was a swift and brutal bite, laden with anger, a bite that that even looked swift in slow motion. I say it was laden with anger, because the hippo had on expression on it's face, before and after the bite, of "You guys want to play...? You want to play? Let's play then. Yeah, let's play." The other lions panicked and backed off, and the hippo, like the one above, went off into a water mass, without any particular urgency, striding away like he or she had made a point to the pride of lions. It was a a late evening hunt, and the next morning, the injuries of the lioness were visible. Her jaw was hanging (almost falling off), she was in agony and she didn't look like she was going to make it. The other lions gathered around her, cuddled her the best way they could, consoled her the best way they could, and then left her there. Regards, Michael M. Hippos are hard to bring down. Hippos have a low center of gravity, unlike giraffes. The hippo is also wide-bodied and every part of its body is like a big muscle. the skin is also tough thus not easy to puncture or penetrate and its body is round making it difficult to have a tight mouth grip. unlike giraffes with none of the body characteristics of the hippo, the giraffe's vulnerability comes from its long, thin legs which makes it easier to take down.
