Well my theory was alot more complex than the reality... To me it told the story of a man who died while falling asleep at the wheel (head grew heavy and my sight grew dim) And everything that came after was just his experiences with people in the afterlife.... but hey atleast we know what the real meaning was lol

I always thought it appeared to be a hotel but actually ended up being a insane asylum that they could never leave….to be honest they were probably all high on drugs but had a really cool guitar solo, so they just kinda came up with some really vague lines that sounded cool but we’re meaningless, kinda like “American Pie”. I thought that they might have been referring to the old Standard Hotel in California, the one that was used for child sex trafficking and massive amounts of drug trafficking and who knows what else you could get from that place. This is the same Hotel that Adam Schitt was caught/involved in the death of a 12 year old boy there. I may be wrong but I think they just changed the name from the "Standard Hotel" to "Hotel California" but like I said I may be wrong, and honestly I pray that I am wrong, but time will tell.

What happened is that they were all high and dude came up with this killer guitar solo and the rest of the band decided to write some somewhat incoherent lyrics and a bunch of music critics do what they do and try to dissect and interpret everything and try to tell you what THEY THINK the artist was trying to say, when it reality , it was just a bunch of guys who were drunk and high and just wrote some shit about their actual experience in California

I always saw the song as the description of the shallow life led by many people out there. "Her mind is tiffany twisted"? That takes a lot of money. "Doctor said he's coming but you got to pay in cash"? Known fact many doctors have kept high paying people on things they wanted but were paid for them off the books so if you ODed it was not traced to him giving you too much. Especially in the 70s, all young kids wanted to go to California and try to make it big. I never saw it as a real Hotel, but a reference to the whole Hollywood, big money, fast life, and celebrity type lifestyle. The drugs, addictions and hunger for that lifestyle. It's what she means when she tells him, "We are all just prisoners her, of our own device". It describes addiction to a T, whether it be drugs and booze, money, the lifestyle as a whole or whatever. Personally, I never found it too impressive. Way overrated, and seems more like suicide of actual life or at least ones mentality. Nothing worth a crap ever come from there....
