In this video I demonstrate how to identify the ends of an MICC cable (sometimes called MI or Pyro cable) as the line and neutral conductors. Using a Megger MFT testing set to ohms I show how to short out a conductor to the outer copper CPC of the MICC cable at one end and test at the other end to confirm the conductor before identifying it as either line or neutral. In the final part of the video I prove how mechanically strong mineral insulated cable is by hammering it flat until finally it breaks down.

As an apprentice I hated this cable... But an Amazing designed cable. 👏

Pyro I have always loved working with that stuff. But it can be a bugger if you don’t get the bends right first time as it will work harden and can split . Fantastic video as always Gaz my mums flat were I was brought up the two ring mains were in pyro and service clipped the lighting was in service conduit a lot of the council flats in Southwark south east London are still like that today. Testament to its longevity . Fantastic video as always Gaz👍👍👍👍❤️

I tested a pyro ring main last week that was 60 years old in a working mens club the test results were better than what you would expect if you were to rewire in twin and earth ,you seem to struggle getting the gear to work with it these days no one stocks it

I like to use a DC supply 9v in a box with crock clips also did use that to find what braker did what ring well that was 25 plus years back. Wow am old now.

A great cable that gets replaced for cheaper alternatives

Sign of the times 🙄🙄🙄 yet city and guilds still teach outdated unrealistic wiring such as micc instead of fp200 and yet use SY in AM assessments

@@paul_my_plumbs_uk skill set that I feel that you should have under you're belt as an apprentice. If you can make these cables off, you can make off any cable in the electrical industry. 😁

@@rowles13 I agree 👍💯 but not very often these days you need to make off a pro. Take a look at the used micc tools on fleabay unreal prices 😂😂😂

You said you would only identify one of the conductors and wouldn’t test both, I disagree as you want to prove it’s continuous and isn’t broken internally therefore I test both conductors to prove they are continuous and unbroken

@@GSHElectrical So what are you saying you don’t test continuity on all conductors? You need to prove each conductor is continuous and unbroken.
