GSi Is Back! Vauxhall Corsa GSi 2018 First Drive

The Corsa VXR is dead. Well, at least it is for now. In its place Vauxhall has released the Corsa GSi, a car which may have a familiar name. That's because GSi was a nameplate that was often used by the British brand once upon a time, and now it's back. Is it any good though? Watch this to find out.

I have the Corsa vxr carbon pack 2016 my car is awesome Vauxhall really need to wake up before the Corsa gsi flops very badly

I think this is a clever option from Vauxhall. Bring back the gsi brand and bring more daily driving in a sporty body. Vxr to much of a cop magnet for me.

Don`t think i`ll be selling my Abarth for one of these, I had a 6 month old Corsa gsi back in 1994, the engine went pop at 8k miles!

Peter Thwaites Christ, I own the performance variant VXR 2016, and I would never trade a sweet sounding Abarth for the GSI !!

Good but not great seems to be the general consensus on this one, which is a shame... I worked at a Vauxhall main dealer for 15 years, right through the glory years of the original GSi badged cars.. The cars all seem so clinical now, boring almost.. Maybe I'm just getting old, eh? Good review though....👍

Hiya Kevin, thanks for watching. The problem with this car, is that it all feels a bit half-baked. For starters, it's overpriced, and it just feels like Vauxhall made it just for the sake of it, rather than trying to offer a worthwhile product to its customers. Ok, maybe that last part of my statement was a bit harsh, but it just feels like a model that's been cobbled together to help see out this generation of Corsa (an all-new model is coming next year).

I have a corsa and in my opinion they are great!! I would never get a fiesta and definitely not a swift, the corsa is a hot topic car! They’re very popular within the younger generation and arguably the most desired car for teenagers

Good video, do you reckon that there are deals to be had with this model? Especially considering it's priced up against the Fiesta ST which is ridiculous.. Dealerships are not gonna shift many at that price..

Agreed. It's cheaper, you get more for your money, it's more comfortable, and I think it's better looking as well. Not that the Corsa is ugly, although I wouldn't spec it in the 'Mandarina' paintwork applied to the model tested here. Thanks for watching Abdul.

Never liked the Corsa.....however LOTS of people do love them for some unknown reason?! So they will probably still sell a few. The car you tested must have been a fair bit over 20K which just seams nuts to me, like you say ST1 money, but more comparable to the Swift sport in terms of performance...so the Swift sport is not over priced after all?! (16999 ATM). Good review :-)

Hello Adam, thanks for watching. I didn't realise that the Swift Sport had dropped to £16,999. It's probably because Suzuki has realised that the standard price of £18,000 is too pricey. Going back to the Corsa, the model tested here was approaching £22,000, which I think is boderline bonkers (not in a good way) considering what you're getting for your money.

@@CarObsession Thank you for your reply, 22k is a crazy price you could get an ST3 with a discount for that money!. I'm going to be ordering a new Swift Sport in a couple of weeks time, just waiting for my house sale to go through first. The Swift is £16999 until the end of the year but doing some research I have found a couple of car discount websites quoting just under 15K which I'm yet to confirm is true, best confirmed offer so far is via carwow for £16140 so has to be a bargain car at around15-16k?!. This is a travesty using the gsi badge on this car. It's more of a vxr line corsa something that looks good but doesn't have the draw backs of a hot hatch. And besides these gsi corsa go over £20000!! Wtf for a corsa......... No thanks. Vauxhall has truly balls'd up with this thing and to top it off its not even hot in terms of bhp. I think this will be bought by chavs if they can get the finance funded by mummy and daddy.

Car Obsession nope rather have the new st for around the same price than this! Watching it them seats are a added 1K extra very boring car basically the same as a corsa d black edition just a different badge
