Learn how to replace the front wheel bearings on a Suzuki GSXR 1000 motorcycle. We’ll start by removing the front calipers and then dropping the front wheel out of the fork. Then, John will show you how to remove the old dust seals and bearings. Next, John will show you how to use a bearing driver set to install the new wheel bearings and dust seals, and then we’ll wrap things up by getting the front wheel back on the motorcycle.

Little heat to hub put bearing in freezer for a bit put cold bearing into the heated hub slides right in. Well takes less effort. The tool kit is cool but for a rider who will o ly do this if ever every few years just use old bearing to drive new bearing in. Nice vid gonna check the website now.

great video, especially the part where you added the extra grease to the bearing. that's a useful tip. as someone who rides off road, all the river crossing I do really eats my bearings alive. I think this tip would really help in protecting my bearings. cant' wait to try.

if you notice the seal is like 1/4" deep so you can lay the wheel right on wood to get that first 1/4" which is the roughest, then space it between wood whatever.. I like sealed bearings over non, spray a little creep in the race first then drive out. helps.. also place your bearings and seals in the freezer, yup

Is there is stops in the wheel that keep the bearing from moving further into the hub, what's the reason for the spacer in the middle?

My spacer was too long when i installed the second bearing and it seized them up. Why did this happen? Do I have to trim it down? I ordered a new spacer from you guys.

Trying not to dent the discs is another thing you don't want to do. $$$$ I use the interlocking floor square pads. Bearings in the freezer for 1 hours helps before install. Old bearing works for a driver.

How did not tightening the left side pinch bolts help align forks?
@jarnom85
@jarnom85 5 жыл бұрын
If left side were tightened things would not move and seat and align properly. After compressing front few times allows it to seat and align properly and then tightening left side all would pretty much guarantee it to be seated and aligned.

Hello from the UK, My front bearing just self destructed on my 2011 gsxr750 21000 miles on the clock and it has destroyed the inner wheel. Now one bearing is totaled but inspecting the other ,the grease in the bearing is toast , i mean it is totally shot and not doing its job, So it got me thinking, we all lube our chains and check fluid levels but forget about prob the most important stuff like wheel bearings. So is there any maintenance procedures we can do to help prolong the wheel bearing and prevent expensive garage costs. There doesn't seem to me to be a way of re greasing the bearing without popping them out (which means you have to replace them anyway) ?
@PartzillaParts
@PartzillaParts 6 жыл бұрын
Since they are sealed, they are difficult to maintain. Inspect them when you replace your tires and replace as necessary. They should need little to no attention. Riding in extreme weather conditions can cause the grease to flush out eventually. If you have any concerns, replace them with fresh bearings to be sure.

How many max km change wheel bearing
@HalfdeadRider
@HalfdeadRider 4 жыл бұрын
They can last many miles/years, just change them if there is play in the wheel or if the wheel seem not to spin as free as it once did, there will always be some friction from the bearings themselves and the brake pads on the disc surface.
@HighGrade_FireBlade
@HighGrade_FireBlade 2 жыл бұрын
You realize that those bearings come with Mobil 28, a clay based grease, and yamalube race grease is lithium soap based? They are completely incompatible and will result in the base oils of the two greases separating. If you ever repack a sealed bearing you should clean as much of the factory grease out as possible. Plus there is a ton of science and math that goes into calculating how much grease to put in a wheel bearing. Too much can cause churning which increases friction, causes heat, and results in premature bearing failure. High speed bearings should have a 40% fill max. Putting in extra grease can most certainly hurt it.

@HalfdeadRider
@HalfdeadRider 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, you should not do it quite as rough as in the video, you want it to just touch on the spacer, he went to far in the video. It even looks like it has distorted the bearing slightly because of his ham fisted approach, even when drifting the old ones out he just smashed them out, hit one side once then the other, over and over until it drifts out evenly or you could damage the wheel itself, and they are not cheap.

Tell that customer his tire is mounted backwards on the rim. Needs a new tire, If it was removed and mounted again the opposite direction he would have the old tire carcass separate. New tire!

Tyre is on correctly, I guess you're used to car tyres, the tread works differently on rear bike tyres, the fronts on bikes are usually mounted as you would expect looking at just the tread.

The tools used are fine, the tool using them needs to chill a bit and do it properly, he should have stuck with the slide hammer, drifting them out is fine if you do it correctly, he just smashed them out rather than drifting them evenly, definitely no need for any tool for the dust covers either lol.
