17 years after release and technology has come so far, you would imagine everything about the game would look so much better. Everything! clearly the dev didn’t have any sort of passion or respect for these games.

We have truly reached a new low. One of the most successful game companies in the world can't even properly remaster its own 20-year old PS2 titles.

The ability to see all three cities from the tallest skyscraper in the game due to the lack of fog and haze effects is the most immersion breaking feature I have ever seen.

The draw distance in Definitive Edition is so huge it feels like you can snipe someone in San Fierro while you are in the Los Santos Tower LMAO

That much bigger draw distance only works when the map itself is also huge. The SA map was actually really tiny compared to later GTA games. The fog and decreased draw distance helped hiding that and actually make the map look bigger than it actually was. Also playing with the fog and even the color of the fog can make certain areas look a bit more cramped and gloomy, like the forest.

Take a game series known for attention to detail, with a fan base that looks for details, and then fuck up all the details. Definitive!

While this is sad. This is an amazing reminder of how great the original was on the Xbox and PS2. Way ahead of its time.

5:24 Yeah, I'd argue that the second point is actually why they should have kept the fog. Not only does it make the world look tiny, but this also takes away a huge part of the game's atmosphere. The limited draw distance is why Silent Hill for example had such a great mood. They too made the mistake of 'improving' upon that in the Silent Hill 2 'Remaster'.

This is a very good video. I couldn't finish it because I couldn't handle what a great SUCKcess GTA Definitive Edition was. You would think with the performance of their other titles they would have the resources to produce a true remaster of San Andreas, Vice City, or GTA III. I'm sure there's a posse of young people that would be willing to do the work that the members of the Skyblivion community are doing for this title. This was entertaining to watch. Thank You

Rockstar handed this project to a mobile game developer, which to nobody's surprise resulted in the developers simply porting the mobile version of SA with a slight graphical enhancements and calling it a day. Rockstar and Take Two were somehow so confident (only after eliminating their main competition which did a superior job, mods) in this attempt to bank on blind nostalgia that they put their names all over this mess...

Thank you, definitive edition. Now I can appreciate the original San Andreas even more. What a well made game, full of detail!

Remember when games had to take special consideration to ensure they could run on systems? And where there were no patches so you had to have a feature complete product day 1? We're in a new era of technology, where the end user is expected to just deal with the fact the games aren't optimized, and they sell full price alpha builds of games. And then there's even more half-assed stuff like this.

Map boundary glitch(which reverses you on 180°) was in original game. Effect wasn't this visible because of game fog. So ocean in fact isn't limitless

Seeing the increased draw distance revealing the deceivingly small map size actually hurt me a little. As a kid, I used to think the San Andreas map was fucking HUGE. Traveling from Los Santos to San Fierro used to feel like a real long haul, almost like traveling between two big cities in real life. Seeing how small the map actually is was like a dagger to the 12-year old me's heart.

The problem is they threw all 3 games into unreal engine 4, without beta or alpha tests. Not to forget that they banned several mods just to release their garbage "definitive edition"

What do you use in the original editions that make them look better like half the way to the definitive editions? Is it a mod or official remaster?

I'm actual amazed at how much they managed to mess up in the game. It took some real effort to fuck up this much.

I missed those days when games actually came out as finished products now with the option of post launch support they can still release the game because now they have all the freedom to do their incomplete work later

However you missed a few important things bro: - Cars don't have burning tail lights anymore (during night time) like they had in the original trilogy, only brake lights are present. - Reverse gear light (white light) is also missing. And when using the handbrake, the brake lights go on in the Definitive Edition, which is unrealistic. In the OG GTAs, brake lights didn't go on when using handbrake. So this 'remaster' is missing graphical features that GTA 3 include 20 years ago - Music is also missing in Shops, Strip Clubs, Barber, Tattoo Shop, Restaurants, Bars etc. - In GTA 3 and Vice City the newspapers and leaves on the streets are gone, everything looks clean like Lego City

I was planning to buy the original trilogy this black Friday sale, but since they removed it from Steam I'll get it the "other" way.

What I see in all 3 games - Textures made high def, some changed, same low poly models scaled and smoothing without quality control (serious rigging issues). I'm very sure the offset of characters and many items in game is directly linked to how much of a loveless rushjob this was, hitboxes and sound events not triggering properly as well.. Shame, I loved playing the og's.

You know what I hate more? The fact that R* and T2 even dared to threaten a lawsuit to modders, which were arguably their most loyal fans and the ones that made the OG trilogy still relevant even today. Also, the fact that they claimed a strike over a GTA IV save file just blew my mind on a whole another level. Shameful, that's all I can say about R* and T2 right now

I feel like I'm having a stroke when I see mt Chilliad, San Fierro and Las Venturas all from the tallest building in LS. The draw distances and winding roads really made the map feel bigger than it actually was, and this ruins that. When I first got to the part where you loose Sweet, and Tempeny and Pulasky bring you to Mt Chilliad, it really felt like I was far away. Here, it fells like a couple of feet away.

i can't remember whose i watched, but i watched a video talking about the definitive edition of gta and how to them it was weird that they would remove the older games and the fact very little was discussed when it came to the definitive edition.....at the time. he'd mentioned that before they remove them, for ppl to buy the older versions of the games, cause once they're gone....they're gone for good. after everything, that was some pretty sound advice lol.

I wouldn't even care that much if the originals were still available to buy and they called this "GTA HD Collection" or something, but replacing the originals and calling this "Definitive Edition" is just disgraceful.

It’s amazing anyone signed off on releasing this. Even if there was just limitations for some reason why it got worse, have some integrity….. they had to know this was gonna get ripped to shreds quickly.

So what we learned from Cyberpunk and GTA San Andreas definitive edition is that, it makes more sense when the gameplay is at its best, rather than just giving amazing graphics in the game.

I think they have been working out the kinks since the Definitive Edition was first released because I am currently playing it myself and it looks like some of the issues listed in this video have been fixed. As far as CJ's anatomy, the jogging animation does change depending on his size like it's supposed to. That being said, I can't believe they took out the ability to sprint. Skinny CJ is like Usain Bolt when he sprints in the original version!

Let's not forget 3 things: that the OG GTA came out in 2004, 2 console generations ago and it still manages to do some pretty impressive feats like loadless (disruptive) roaming of the map that most of the new "improved" visuals probably came as default with the new engine, and were probably lazily slapped on top that the gamecode it's the same, and still they managed to mess up things like swimming

I wouldn't call the map boundary a downgrade. Yes while it was limitless in the original version, flying over the water could actually glitch or even ruin your save. I think Vadim M has a video on it

When I first played this game, I thought the map was HUGE. The villages in the countryside felt really disconnected from the cities. Only later I found out the map was not much greater than a square metre. The close fog really did its job well. Although the limitless draw distance feels cool from the streets, it absolutely destroys the game's atmosphere. It's an embarrassment.
