Excellent video, the best I’ve seen on the GTN750. Been flying G1000 for 15 years, recently bought an aircraft with GTNs and this is really helpful with the transition.

Great job. Just found this. Just what I need. We have a 750 and the STC 55. Keep up the great work

KY CSIP in and outs of visual approaches. I over think them. Or when practicing them at my home airport I’m to close in to make them work right

This was amazing. I think I will GTN 750Xi over the GTN 650. The bigger screen will help to see all of these steps better in the cockpit.

Had no idea what a CSIP was, had to look it up.

Nice video. I was able to follow along but agree that a bit slower would help. I'm already pretty familiar with this stuff and still had to backtrack a bit. You probably know this, but there are those who would not use VTF in that situation although it definitely works. Direct the GRUNZ on the approach (that's what it looks like in the video) or intercept the GRUNZ - WYLER leg would provide the same result and be preferred by many instructors and pilots.

Thanks for the thoughts, I'm working on an IFD version of the same video and will keep the pace in mind. Vectors to final is a really interesting thing. If you do it on a non-XI GTN with older software it'll delete any waypoints prior to the FAF, which can become an issue. With someone flying planes equipped with that kind of hardware, VTF is something I teach to avoid whenever possible. With the XI however I'm leaning towards saying VTF is appropriate when it matches what the controller is asking for. I say that simply because it eliminates the chance someone will click the wrong waypoint, which happens. Either way is a perfectly acceptable way to do things, just know your avionics!

@@kycsip3066 yep, by leaving in the waypoints along the extended FAC, the updated units have limited the effect of the problem. But I still remember the first time I saw the problem, long before the AIM recommended not using VTF. "Expect vectors to final." Pilot entered VTF. Vectors began. A minute or two later, "proceed direct [waypoint no longer in flight plan]." Pilot ended up scrambling. Could still happen with a new GTN I'd that waypoint is at the end of a T. So the technique choice the pilot must make is (a) using VTF and perhaps having to reload the approach (a necessary skill, too) at a high workload phase, or (b) loading from an IAF and always having the full sequence available to activate at any point, no matter what avionics you use. Interesting choices we get, eh? 🤔 BTW, if you check my channel, my personal "COVID project" was three videos comparing Garmin and Avidyne. Unlike yours, they were focused on individual tasks rather than a full flight. I love your concept of putting it all together for a flight, but you might find some ideas there.

Wasn’t the hold entry at Elwood City a parallel instead of a teardrop?

You are absolutely correct! The arrows are the key thing to look for. Good catch!

Why was the "Activate APPR" button grayed out @14:46? Too close to GRUNZ?

SLOW DOWN! For anyone trying to LEARN and practice as you go you are going way too fast. You burn right through what you are doing and I can't even catch what it is without backing up a lot. No way to slow UTube down to help out.

Also there is a way to slow down KZfaq. Click on the 3 dots at the top, right-hand corner and just playback.

@@kycsip3066 The pace is fine. Great video. Apparently, people aren't aware that you can skip back 10 seconds and rewatch a section. Also people don't know that you can slow down KZfaq videos. Maybe some people should watch videos of how to use common internet platforms before trying to learn GPS IFR procedures.
