Gitmo is a US military installation placed within the borders of a hostile country that the US historically wanted control of while the communist Cuban govt wanted the ejection of the US, Guantanimo always baffled me. 70 years later, and neither the Cubans have militarily attempted to eject the US nor the US using gitmo as a staging area to reclaim the island? You never hear anything about skirmishes either. What is the nature of this bizarre set of circumstances?

Throwing the US out of Cuba is one thing, invading a military base on a separate island is another. Cuba didn't outright want war with the US either.

@@mwi3865 the toughest part of the video is making it one sided instead of actually diving in to the parts nobody wants to say publicly. Such as, gitmo has its flaws but also served a necessary evil that nobody wants the credit for.

In fact the only reason that big prisons may be necessary in different spots of the region is the hypothetical scalation of civil wars that would require to send amounts of combatants to specific security centers. In fact the region hasn't been that far from that scenario in recent years.

You know there’s more to Guantanamo than your base. I’m Canadian. I’ve driven by the base on my way to Guantanamo the city. The Cubans also have a naval base there. And listening stations above and below water. Constantly they are watched. So if you want to know about the compounds, ask them. They’ll know exactly.

I am European so kind of non-partisan in this. I don't particularly like Trump or Biden though. This video made me unsubscribe from the channel, because it has a heavy political bias. I hate that. I don't want campaign, I want data and unbiase view on history and the world. This is not it.

@@CoyTheobalt every time he mentioned democrats, it was "they really tried but could not close it", every time he mentioned republicans, it was "give me even more torture and incarceration". With a punchline indicating on coming elections. We all agree torture and extrajudicial incarceration is criminal, and that US doing this is actually the reason why most of the world turned away from them. But sincere historical analysis does not need to paint one side as horrible torturers and the other as weary saviors. I could use honest analysis of why TF Bush administration even begun with it and who were the guilty inmates (not just the horrible cases of innocent people incarcerated for stupid reason), so that we could get somewhat balanced view - you can still infer it was wrong to run this prison. Fine by me, it was wrong overall. But there had to be better reasons than sadism that drove CIA to run this. There had to be reasons why the congress eventually decided on keeping the prison operational. WHY? Even with all the political downfall? Even with the criticism that cost the US its soft power hegemony? What were the reasons to keep this up? We learn nothing of that sort, just "republicans bad, democrats less bad, maybe even excusable". I just cannot believe the bias is a coincidence, therefore: unsubscribe.

I took care of prisoners in Iraq, they didn't want us there, and we didn't want to be there. You can't bitch about one county doing something and then turn around and do it yourself. EVERY US Military base is US property and therefore US land, so even though it happened in Cuba or some other country, it still happened on US land.
