There's a lovely piece on KZfaq about the reitrement home at Windsor where these horses go at the end of their service. They talk about the toll standing for long period on hard ground takes on their body, and how many of them don't have the temperament to stand or cope with traffic and crowds. There;'s a sweet heavy horse of 7 called Wiggins who just couldn't cope with the demands of standing still under pressure for long periods. It's worth looking at.

Ormond and Thor's blazes are reminiscent of a wrench. That's how I see it anyway!

It's a listed building and may need approval for specialist cleaning. It may also require some research and experiments to find the least damaging cleaning method to fully remove that paint.

It was also cavalry Sunday yesterday, the current serving and veterans from current regiments and those now disbanded and amalgamated marched to Hyde Park, i believe that Trooper Jeffery was in the Blues and Royals contingent marching. I absolutely love your walks through London on the way to horse guards. I was fortunate enough to vacation there in 1985 but had my 18 month old baby with me so I couldn’t enjoy my time there as much as I would have liked. Your walks bring back many wonderful memories 💜

One has to remember when dealing with temperatures. It's different when your 20 or 25 in a grassy area and lot different when its all cement. That heat partially absorbs to come out later and gets bounced back up immediately. Logans got the right idea work hard for your dreams.

Every time I've been to London (starting in 1998 to 2018, our last European trip which included being in London), the skyline has been full of cranes and, John, I can see from the start of the video, as you walked along the embankment, that nothing has changed. Thank you so much for taking a different route and allowing us to enjoy different vistas of London and reminding me of some wonderful times I/we had in London.

John, you're correct in saying that you didn't think the grey police horse was Ava - Ava is a much darker dappled grey which usually indicates it's a younger horse.

John, I totally agree with you!!! Those people who painted the Ministry building would be in jail for years, and they would be cleaning off every inch!!! I literally cried when I walked by and saw what had happened!!!!

Good morning John. Linda from Florida. Enjoyed the morning walk. Love the architecture! Everything was so green & beautiful & clean. Didn't see any trash. The horse did not spit out the mint. It is difficult for horses to eat with a bit in their mouth & food/treats fall out of their mouth. When the troopers & Gatesman or police officers talk to the horse Guards I'd love to know what they are talking about. Have a lovely day & stay cool. Since I'm in Florida I can relate to the heat & humidity.

Hi John, we sat down to enjoy a wonderful lunch and saw this video waiting to be watched. You walking along the embankment almost retracing my footsteps of many years ago. Then you turned the camera and looked back towards Westminster to show the KHANage that has been done to Victoria Embankment. It was reassuring to see that the destruction of the roads hadn't had the same effect on the buildings. The London I remember has long disappeared over the past 48 years and sadly the current state he has created for London now means I will never travel the 80 miles or so to visit it again. Thanks for your videos, they mean a lot and revive some old dusty memories. Take great care while venturing out in Khan land.

I checked it, and your temp was knocking on for 72 F for those of us that don't do the Celsius thing. Now that's hot for England! It's the humidity that wipes you out. They'll have soldiers dropping today. It's so nice to see the horses being taken care of in the heat.. If they have to work in it, at least they get a drink and a wet rub down. As for the horse - who needs words?

In Canada we have the Humidex level, puts together the temperature and the humidity and tells you how hot it makes it feel! We are used to it!

Thanks for the stroll around London. There are are times these days when I sometimes find strolling from room to room a problem so sightseeing without having to walk to see the sights is much appreciated. I’m not sure I would have described that tourist who just stood there while Luxembourg was acting up as “fearless.” Stupid, dumb, unaware, batsh*t crazy may have been better. But if he thought he’d still be standing if he got hit by a broadside of an unsettled horse he was, at best, delusional. Water is a better heat conductor than air so keeping a horse hydrated and dousing it with water and leaving it wet will cool it down faster. But that effect is lost if a succession of tourists start mauling it with their hot sweaty paws. But never underestimate how smart horses can be. I think Luxembourg has twigged on that acting up let’s him swap being too hot and pestered by tourists for his nice cool stable, a bit of a snack and a snooze if he feels like it.

So glad that you took my suggested route, as a Londoner that’s the route I’d take to avoid the tourists. Thank you, John. x

Edinburgh is pretty green, John and the paint on the building, if it’s a listed building, they might have to be careful about how they clean and what they clean with but I do agree that it should have been cleaned already 🙂

At 8AM it was 63F here when your video came on. It will get hotter up into the 80F today. Sorry that the first horse had to go in so soon. TaLa? is that right? You can always tell the ones who are TT or some other platform; they are dressed oddly for a tourist and they always pose! I always wonder if the women who stand with their legs crossed need to find a restroom. (Grin) Those young boys are so good, their parents are doing a great job. Thanks so much for sharing.
