Our London, Montreal, Vancouver and Mumbai studios had a blast bringing some VFX magic to the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. From introducing Cosmo to the team to ageing up Groot, and of course, adding holiday flair to the Guardians base on Knowhere.

Groot was probably the most impressive effect. I actually thought he was a practical effect. Like a guy in a suit they CG’d over.

Cosmo looks very realistic even in bits where it’s not possible to have the real pup. Very good effects, you guys did great on all the movies!

Damn dude. I'm a professional CG environment artist, and even I thought that Cosmo was a real trained dog in a costume. Nothing about the model or fur physics/density looks CG to me. That is an incredible model, and even more incredible animation.

Spoiler in case you haven’t already seen it: … I honestly didn’t expect Lila to die. I thought the other two might, but as she died in the same shot as we first saw her in the trailer, I thought it was going to be all happy then- BAM. Literal tears
