I think Rocket is one of the best characters in the MCU, he changes a lot through out the movies but you can suspect that the personality traits of the the best Rocket were always driving his actions. Plus his concept adds a little depth to the cliche of "oh, that experiment has turned me into a enhanced individual". I think he, Cap. and Nebula are my favorite characters

If you pause at 1:54 and look to the far right at the last prisoner behind Rocket. The prisoner bares an extremely striking resemblance to Ripley in 'ALIEN 3'. Most possibly a reference due to the scene taking place in a prison in the middle of outer space.

Can someone please tell me what are they doing at 0:50, i thnik the lights and shadows for Rocket to make him more realistic but how is this effect called and what to do with that ball and colors?
@EmdozPro9 жыл бұрын
Lionarts I don't know for certain, I'm only guessing. But I think that the ball adds lights and shadows to Rocket, and his costume. It also adds environmental reflections, for example, if there is a metal piece on his costume, it can be used for that. They might also use it as a reference point for Groot as well. Since they are walking down a corridor, there are going to be lights, so some parts are going to be darker than others, so I think that is why they spin the ball. The colours might be used for coloured lights, since they are in space there is probably coloured lights, glowing buttons, the light from their handcuffs, etc. I don't know what the effect is called. I'm only guessing from watching the video and analysing it, so I could be wrong, but I hope this sort of helps.

KnightsGambit Thank's but I want to try make this. I have a 3D character and I want him looks real, but I can't find anything about this so I have no idea how to do that and what softwares are for this... I remember once I have seen making this effect in Science of the movies but i can't find that episode...

Lionarts Oh okay. Good luck with it, it seems like it's going to be difficult. Try checking online for tutorials, or for any information. Have a look at the programs, Cinema 4D and Adobe After Effects. Also check out www.videocopilot.net/ for good tutorials on Adobe After Effects and more.

Lionarts This is called "light probe". Reverse sphere mapping is applied to HDR (high dynamic range) source image of a spherical mirror to extract the light contribution which is fed into "image-based lighting" system. There are plenty of HDR environments (as spherical maps or as box maps) which you can download and use in your software to place your object into the light of some typical or well known places. Paul Devebec has a well known page which has been around for decades, but if you google you'll find some more. Box maps and panorama images in HDR format can be used both as light probe, and as a background for your object, though marrying the object with the background can be hard. I used to do this in Blender a decade or more ago, there was a script which would take the probe and create an array of hundreds of directional lights out of it. The renderer was simplistic and it was the only way to do it. Render times weren't very sweet. Newer, physically based renderers with HDR texture support don't require generation of explicit lights, it should be sufficient to create an object corresponding in geometry to the probe, texture map it correspondingly, make it very large, and set it emissive. It should also be possible to render in layers or with a stencil such that you can remove the probe object from the rendering and have it be replaced by another background image. If you have a DSLR or any camera with manual exposure control, as well as a tripod and a spherical mirror on some stand, you should have all the hardware you need to create HDR light probes with corresponding backgrounds yourself. However, i have never tried it and cannot advise on the specifics. I hope you have now enough keywords to find how to do it in your favourite software. If you fail, you can always try Blender, you'll easily find tutorials for this. In this shot, they used both a mirror probe and a diffuse probe on the same stick, you can see the operator rotate it to expose one of the two. Diffuse probe may be useful because it doesn't require HDR, but i don't know how it works with software, it wouldn't work quite right with usual image based lighting pipeline, it will just wash everything out. Also a 24 colour reference card is seen, not sure what the purpose of it is. You might find curious that some videogames also often use image-based lighting for characters and items. For that, light probes are precomputed during creation of the static part of the environment, and the probes are stored as a set of pre-filtered images with different filter strength for surfaces of different roughness (technique popular on PS3/Xbox360), or simplified at build time into a mathematical function with a handful of coefficients (popular on PS2, iPhone). If i have touched on any of the topics where you have further open questions, poke me and i'll try my best to explain. I have good understanding of image processing because i am a software developer in related areas, but as an artist i'm only a hobbyist so my experience is limited.

I'm back, hello guys ❤ So what? You look embarrassed when I say "he's barefoot". But his feetpaws are naked, right? What is the problem? Ask yourselves this question : why the comic artist wants a barepaw character? He can choose shoes (like Starfox characters), but he prefers a naked feet creature. Why? And yes, the poor little thing is barefoot on the hard ground of a spaceship, the dirt and other. It's why I suggest a massage. WHY ARE YOU DISTURBED BY THIS IDEA GUYS?
