The man will have Grealish tracking back an defending whilst Rodri is banging screamers. He’s a top no nonsense manager and he’s won trophies in multiple leagues that’s not just money or luck. Spurs fan here, I have family in Spain and Spanish players are known to be technical. They all raved about Paul Scholes saying watching him play is like as if he watches from an aerial view. Despite him being English he had that Spanish flair, being able to pick out passes, control games, take shots and dictate play. Absolute class player and he was very down to earth

Arsenal fan here: I'll take Scholesy above the other two. He was the silent assasin - long passess, short passes, square balls, thunderbolts. Even Henry said in an interview that the Arsenal team where always finding ways to deal with him. Gerrard might have had more memorable moments (Instanbul 2005, FA Cup Final against West Ham) etc...But Paul has the trophy cabin to justify his consistency.

@@AstroSullyits true but tactically...there is a gap between these two players. Xavi is more like scholes tactically, they are both chess masters on a field. They wanted to keep the ball so that they didnt need to tackle and chase in defence. Gerrard was not that. Much more direct. He's of another type. Its a matter of taste

@@AstroSully I agree Gerrard was much more isolated. Playing with bad defences sometimes...with average midfielders sometimes. What I give Gerrard credit for is that he lifted the spirit of his team and drove by his desire. A bit like Vieira but with more charisma. All the team felt represented by him I remember well watching him play in the 2011/12 season, it was painful to see (Torres left, there was José enrique, skrtel, agger, glen johnson, shelvey...suso..really a bad period). I was watching Liverpool just to see what Gerrard did in the middle of that, out of respect for him..

People under rate Scholes and pick Gerrard or Lampard when in his prime, Scholes was so feared even Henry said we need to find a way to stop him to stop Manchester United. Paul Scholes was definitely my favourite from the three and when he retired Manchester United struggled in midfield and he came back. They struggled again when he retired a second time

Definitely my fave of the 3. Killer eye for a pass, may not have been the greatest defensively, but Scholes had that Spanish elegance and ability to control a game, dictate it with his tempo

Stick Scholes or Lampard in a Liverpool team where they are surrounded by other midfielders such as Igor Biscan, Vladimir Smicer, Danny Murphy, Salif Diao, Mark Gonzalez, Jermaine Pennant, Charlie Adam, Jay Spearing, Alberto Aquilani, Stewart Downing, Jonjo Shelvey, Joe Allen and let's see if they can do half the things that Gerrard did. Scholes and Lampard were surrounded by world class players, Gerrard was surrounded by mediocrity for much of his career and was still the best midfielder in the country.

Gerald won more individual awards than scholes which is important when comparing them. Finished second in the 05 balon dor behind kaka and a head of lampard. Aslo made it in the EPl team of the season every year. Scholes and lampard didn't. Gerrard could do everything the others could do and more

All 3 were different type of midfielders. Scholes a strong holding what Rodri is today. Gerrard was box to box one of the best. Lampard was an attacking midfielder with lots of goals.
