Just some rules clarifications for anyone watching this for the first time: Barricades should have been placed on multiple door locations. You can't move diagonally across corners where the terrain juts out. The acid blood hazards aren't used. The blip movement die roll is one roll for all the blips, don't roll individually. You roll for alien attacks against the defence stat, not the melee (beating that just lets you kill the alien, beating the defense number holds it off) You draw two motion tracker cards for one hero, not just one. Between fewer aliens, and the extra movement for cutting corners, plus no barricades to get through, the difficulty of this mission was lowered massively. Aliens and blips cannot move through each other.

The first two alien blips are in LOS of the marines, and so will begin the game as exposed aliens. Your paintwork is superb, Ash.

Excellent video. One of the few that show the whole game instead of the starter pack GF9 sold. Super appreciate the comments section for rule clarifications. I just played my first game and was unclear on a lot of points that have been illuminated by your mindful watchers. Thanks all!

Purchased this today with expansions. Properly looking forward to it! First board game rpg scenario game i'll have had since my Heroquest and Space Crusade days back when I was a kid. Watching as much of you guys to capture as much as I can for when I get to nuke the site from orbit! As a side note that i've noticed. Doorways. Where they have the circular door frames details, is it fair to go diagonally through those? I watched some other guys online today discuss this point and they decided not to enter/exit through them diagonally. But internal wall corners were good to go. Anyway, keep up the awesome! Looking forward to your upcoming play through. :D

You’re correct re: ‘knobbly’ door frames. You can’t move diagonally through them - but you do have Line of Sight diagonally through them (to any square you can draw a straight line - to any part of - from any part of your square, without going through a black wall line)

The Discard Pile is supposed to be face up, I believe. Doesn’t make a lot of difference usually but you are supposed to know what has gone for good (and sometimes you get to choose a card to put back in the Exhaust deck)

To be fair, space hulk was inspired by Alien and Aliens, so the similarities were inevitable. It does have that Space Hulk vibe going though.

@@DarkKnightCuron yeah I know. But seriously, if I had that aliens set I'd have to knock up some Colonial Marine stats so I could have a proper Colonial Marines vs Xenomorphs Spacehulk campaign. the minis are just too nice not to :)

The rules for UB say “players” get experience cards. It doesn’t say characters. Are you sure still if grunts get exp cards?

Another thing, I don’t know if you realised later in the game but I’m pretty sure you don’t put those hive hazard cards in the deck unless you have someone playing as the aliens.

You know what’s ridiculous? The way the rules are written means you can actually see all those blips on the first board section from where your characters start. Things with a white outline don’t block vision. Been a while since I looked at the actual rule but it definitely came up when we played the scenario. I don’t agree with it and I’m sure it wasn’t the designers intent when they designed that board section but there’s plenty of things poorly written in the rules.

I've only had one test playthrough so far, but you are right when you say the rules are half-baked. I got multiple instances of things either not covered in the rules, or where "as written" made no sense. For example, Newt is supposed to run directly away from the marines. As written, in my game that would have sent her into a room filled with a dozen aliens. I decided that she absolutely would not do that.

I thought you were supposed to use 8-man fireteams if you use "Get away from her you bitch" expansion? Is that not for every mission perhaps?

That's only for the expanded "bug hunt" missions. The regular campaign is still only 6-person fireteams, with the extras being available to swap in for later missions to replace losses.
