It's finally HAPPENING!!!!
Hi there! 👋🏻 We live on a 1-acre farm right in the middle of the busy city of Phoenix, Arizona! Our names are Kevin & DaNelle, and we moved here in 2009, when our kids Ethan & Lydia were just 6 & 4 years old 🥰 Over the years we've raised goats for milk, chickens for eggs, built a fish/swim pond, planted fruit & nut trees, and grew a large garden full of veggies. We've also raised a bunch of other animals like pigs, sheep, turkeys, geese, peacocks, and more!
Now that our kids are away at college, we have settled into doing what we love most -- which is raising & breeding goats ethically to improve genetics. But don't worry, we'll forever love our goofy pet goats like Luna the herd queen & Willow the stump lover. We also still love raising chickens for eggs, gardening, tending to the fruit & nut trees, and growing fish in the pond. We use the fresh goat's milk to make cheese, butter, yogurt -- and we use that + everything else we harvest on our little farm to make delicious meals. Having a getaway from the busy world right in our backyard brings so much joy to us each day, and we hope it brings some to you, too. 🥰

I know how you feel! It seemed like I held my breath when my 3 went to college and could only get a soothing deep breath as they walked through the door during their breaks. Oh how I longed for them at home. They’ve now moved on to careers and recently new grand babies.. I’m almost never home now, just long extended time traveling to them and wearing out my welcome, lol. I wouldn’t have it any other way. When you are with your children, life is beautiful, so enjoy every minute Mama.🫶

You could plant Spanish lavender garden over your septic bed, attract bees for tree, crop to harvest, colour for front of house and less grass to maintain.

Isn't Spanish lavender a bit invasive though? They crept into my grandma's lemon trees once and were choking them up. Took my grandpa hours to prune them back if he wasn't vigilant in making sure they didn't spread into the trees. They were pretty and smelled great tho.

What a sweet sweet face Violet has! Great brisket, straight legs... her dam is stunning! We did creeping thyme. It started slow, with daily watering, but now it covers a good area, smells great, feeds the bees....

An avocado tree won't produce fruit until it's 7 years old. What a beautiful little doeling she will be a lovely addition to your herd. So nice to see all your family home together. I love your orchard.

Oh, what a nice surprise at the end! Of course I'm going to watch that! But also genuinely thrilled to see the new baby and all the other babies! I love how she's immediately introduced to the tyres. She's a very pretty girl, and what a perfect name to be Wednesday's buddy. Also, I love the mini orchard -- you're right to keep it away from your septic tank, it's never fun when those break. But as for the trees themelves, you have such a wonderful variety -- blackberries don't ripen until much later in the year, here in Ireland, but I suppose I'm not that surprised that they'd come into season differently in Arizona. Also, if do you do anything with the vineleaves (grape, not blackberry, I'm not completely unhinged, honest!).

I was watching a guy who specializes in avocados. He said if you don't have both female and male, just gently shake the tree everyday when it flowers and it will produce

Congrats on your new addition to your herd, little Violet. Also there is a soft shell almond that is easy to shell with the fingers, my grandfather had a soft shell almond tree in his orchard.

Violet is so pretty and seems very sweet! Poor thing was like a new freshman halfway through the school year lol!! Hopefully her and Wednesday will be buddies! Also, I’d call that a proper orchard! I wish I could grow oranges and peaches! Might be able to get away with peaches but definitely not oranges. My husband would love to grow kiwi.

Hi Danelle and family! Thanks for sharing the goings on at your little farm. Love it when you post. SUGGESTION: I noticed someone suggested BCDG to look for a new buck. I also would suggest that. Also, I have been following Shawn at Zion Creek Farm in Ohio. And he has some gorgeous bucks this year. And are very very flashy too. They are all registered. And he takes great care of his herd. Little Violet is adorable, of course! And I don't know if you have any of the genetics in your herd, BUT Blue Cactus Dairy Goats has several adorable bucklings for sale. I'm certain you're aware of them, since you do the shows and everything and y'all are both in Arizona but just thought I'd let you know in case you might be in the market for a Blue Cactus buck. Good luck to Kiwi hatching out some goslings! And I had to laugh out loud at the little goat antics - getting stuck in a bucket! OMG... LOL
