Would love to hear more about toxic masculinity in professional women’s sports like WNBA. On one side, viewership is pretty terrible (when compared to NBA) and WNBA is subsidized by NBA. Revenues are low and I believe most teams don’t turn profits which is “the argument” on why WNBA players are payed a fraction of their NBA counterparts. But, I do believe toxic masculinity is part of why viewership is low, less representation in media. How do you get “butts in seats”and dismantle the toxic view for women’s sports?
@austin77613 ай бұрын
It should be noted that while it is true that the WNBA has been subsidized historically, it has grown massively in the last few years. The WNBA had a revenue of 180-200 million dollars in 2023, up from just over 100 million in 2019. Additionally, their media rights deals are coming up for renegotiation in 2025. The WNBA is in a much stronger position compared to when the last deal was made. Combine that with the massive popularity of certain players like Clark and Wilson and I expect a lot more money and growth in the foreseeable future.

Get women to watch it. They have no problem watching Victoria Secret Fashion Show, Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Real Housewives of _________________, Love Island, and the NFL when Taylor Swift is there. Hell, Women's Tennis is one of the most lucrative and watched sports out there. So female viewership is there, so they should start viewing the WNBA if they want. This is not men's responsibility to elevate women in viewership. Although I think this could change with Caitlyn Clarke and Angel Reese coming into the fold.
