They're all questionable, including Chloe's "fairytale" win over Maddie at the season 2 nationals, and Nia's "fairytale" season 7 nationals victory. I wouldn't believe any of it.

Abby keeps saying something about how the producers told her to rip up their contracts as she would have so much money coming in she wouldn't need them. Wonder if Melissa and Jill signed a contract specifically making Abby the manager of their girls especially as it only seems to be their girls who were being managed by Abby.

I agree about Kelly but I lost this respect for Christi after she brought Chloe back in Season 7 ngl. Chloe had the same anxiety and pain in Season 7 as she did in the earlier seasons and idk why Christi brought Chloe back to a place where she clearly wasn’t being appreciated and that gave her stress and pain. To me, getting your child out and then bringing them back is almost worse than not taking them out in the first place

Abby before the show would have favourites like Maddie (with Brooke being the favourite when she was that age), she also said that she would have people that she would compare to each other all the time as she thinks it makes people improve when they can see their competition (kind of what she was doing with Maddie and Chloe). Don't know if the girls knew that they would still be there regardless, we saw that Holly thought it was a waste of time so don't know if the mums knew that they couldn't be kicked or not. Pretty sure from Abby's point of view (unless it was a production decision) it was for them to see what their competition is and how many people wanted their spot to give more credence to her everyone's replaceable.

I believe it was just for the drama. It's been said by many cast members that producers had the only say in keeping or kicking off dancers, not Abby. So the show pretended that there was some stakes in the og girls auditioning so that the audience would be more invested in the auditions. Also the moms complained about it and that also made good TV.

Thank you for these episodes! They are both entertaining and informative, and they usually confirm my suspicions. Abby said in an interview that they all knew she couldn't kick them out, nor could they quit, so her response was to be as evil as possible to anybody and everybody she didn't like... giving totally nasty and biased choreo, criticism, corrections, etc. This abuse fell hardest on the Hyland and Lukasiak families, who were clever enough to eventually find a couple loopholes that got them off of the show, and away from the exploitive, uncaring producers and the greedy, narcissist, Abby Lee miller. Brooke, having once been the favorite, realized, in her teenaged wisdom, that Abby was not the ultimate authority... on anything, and her growing disillusionment and disrespect was pretty obvious. However, it was poor Page who suffered the brunt of Abby's frustrations. According to Abby, pretty Paige was never really a dancer, and all she had going for her were her looks. Not only was that degrading to a child who was dedicated and working diligently on her craft, but more than once Abby expressed how much Paige looked like her mother, Kelly, who,, "squandered away her talent and beauty." The history between Abby and Kelly goes way back to early childhood, and I'm convinced the biggest problem between Abby and Kelly can be boiled down to good old fashioned jelousy. Once Abby realized she could torment and terrorize her students (and the moms) with no repercussions, Abby became insufferable and browbeat and pushed kelly over the edge. Once they were gone she set her sites on another thorn in her side, Chloe (who was, btw, just a child!) and her mom, Christie. Chloe was in a tough spot; she was very talented, lovely, sweet, and very likable, but something about her brought out the bully in Abby, and Christie, her hilariously snarky mom, was quite bitter and outspoken from day one of the show. Eventually, Abby's insults hit way below the belt, and Chloe and Christie left. Abby then started in on Nia, antagonizing Holly, but Holly was having none of it Abby was no match for Dr. Holly, a title Abby tried saying disparagingly, but only came off as jelous and kind of ignorant.. Holly is smart. She caught on pretty early to what the show was really about and that Abby had no real power... and she made her moves accordingly. It took Jill a bit longer to catch on, unfortunately for Kendyl. Even Melissa caught on towards the end, but she'd already played that game for so long, it didn't drastically change anything she did, except, perhaps, occasionally speaking up for Makenzie. I'm not convinced Ashley had a clue, but her kid happened to be the perfect foil for abby to use against the others, so she just fell ass-backwards into a pretty sweet deal. Even detached Kyra was occasionally sucked into the drama, but Kalani was usually on the positive side of the favoritism. All told, they played a pretty good game. I'm not even going to mention the distraction kids or the minis, etc, because those moms all came in like wrecking balls and were as subtle as a prize-winning hog in a beauty pageant! They all lacked any depth of character and were putty in Abby's (and the producers') hands. The smartest mother/ daughter duo? Jojo and Jes! They knew exactly what they were signing on for and what roles they needed to play. Of course, jojo was still just a child and a few times Abby's crap would sneak past the strong defenses they'd developed for the show, but for the most part, they knowingly played the game and played it well. They also knew exactly when and how to exit the show Even now, with Dance Moms in her rearview mirror, Jojo has gained positive publicity by reaching out to, and standing by, her cancer-fighting, wheelchair-bound, just-got- out -of- jail, former dance teacher, Miss Abby. Genius! None of us would have blamed her for turning her back on this "monstrosity of evil" (thank you Dr. Holly for that choice nugget!) who'd treated her so horribly (as pretty much all of the other girls have,) but not this savvy duo. How extra likable was jojo after showing her support to someone who didn't deserve it? and she doesn't pretend like the past was all hunky-dorry...she laughs with Abby about it and makes light of how much Abby hated and picked on her.... Genius!

@@jaymifieldhouse9177 Ashlee went on Brynn's podcast. She did know the deal and what was expected. She said that the producers would have multiple potential storylines in mind to go along with the people who got solos and if the mother didn't cause enough drama to have a storyline then the child's solo wouldn't be aired. She said that Brynn had no unaired solos but that Kalani had quite a few because Kira didn't care about playing the game. Brynn said that before the show she had had dance teachers that were worse than Abby for how they spoke to their students.

@@ang4588 Maddie got the message via Sia directly BUT because of the terms of the kids contracts, Abby could do one thing outside dance moms each season, they didn’t want the girls doing anything, Brooke got to do hers on the show without Abby managing her but she basically with Gia told the girls what to do for it, Mackenzie girl party Abby was her manager and all was done on dance moms, with Maddie she wasn’t going to get to do it because it wasn’t ever shown on the show(only a clip of her with her aunt rehearsing for Ellen after was shown, nothing from the actual video): Abby wouldn’t let her not have it: she kept on at the producers till they let her have chandelier: because of the girls contracts they were held back opportunities: Maddie had 4 callbacks for Billy Elliot but Abby couldn’t get the production to agree so she didn’t get to do it.

After season 1 they probably all were.

@@chalkandcheese1868 iirc after season 3 the competitions were invitationals though they still had real judges (my understanding was that this was so that it was easier for filming, as too many competitions didn't want them because of the order that the girls would need to compete in to fit in with filming and labour laws). This does mean that the producers chose who they competed against each week. Would be interesting to know if any of the invited studios declined the invitation.

Umm Mackenzie was never a weak dancer first off and second her voice was good but her voice got better over time and now her voice is amazing

Kenzie wasnt weak but i totally agree about the favouritism. Abby’s resentment towards nia is boarderline crazy and obsessive. Poor girl did nothing to deserve that horrible treatment
