Do we have to pay the security deposit before we land in germany, or can it be done after?

For rent, yes you need to pay it in advance. In private WG, the landlords usually asks a deposit equals 2-3 months of your rent.

@@euroyatri thank you for your reply. I am in india and will be travelling soon, i am just concerned about the scams and trying to minimise requirement of having to pay before i land. Even for WG i must pay before entering the country? Is it not possible to pay after landing in germany?

You can join facebook groups for the location you will be living in germany. From there you can join whatsapp communities as well. There are several groups on facebook like 'Indians in Berlin'. But watch out for any kind of scams there!
