I watched the uncensored video on his website. I was expecting it to be gory, but I didn't see a single drop of blood. This one isn't as humane as the standard snap traps because it took a while for the mice to actually die in this particular trap. I think it's more like the Halifax Gibbet than a guillotine :P

I could not help but notice that some of the guillotine traps you showed as examples have springs made from the hammer spring for a muzzloader rifle or musket! They must truly be very old

I love the look of linseed oil on wood. It's best to use cotton rags for application and once finished store rags in full sun near something airy like a woodshed.

You know what your channel has taught me? That no matter what we do, we're going to be fighting rodent infestations forever, just as we have done, since forever. I really liked the longer, more in depth video that showed some of the techniques of the build. As an aside, I'm personally fine with the KZfaq edits, I don't care to see anything die, especially if it is not instant. I keep reptiles and live on a farm, so I understand that it's just part of life sometimes, but I'm a softie and avoid it. Thank you for putting in the work and testing all this stuff for us.

Just a tip for metal working, the hottest part of the flame is not actually right where it begins, it's at the tip of the bright blue inner cone of the flame. Place your metal at the end of that cone to heat it faster.

Shawn, thanks for the very interesting video. I have a suggestion you might want to consider if you ever make more of these: when splitting the steel packing band (great material!), use a small cold chisel and cut the centerline in a zig-zag pattern. This splits the steel band lengthwise _and_ each cut piece has teeth, almost fully formed, along the cut edge. All that's needed is to dress the teeth with a file. This can save you quite a bit of time. The cold chisel is a tool rarely seen these days; when I was growing up, there was a proper blacksmith nearby. He was a real artist with a cold chisel, and I remember him showing me how, using chisels of different sizes, he could do many metal cutting operations, including cutting things like keyways in a round shaft. His hand and eye were so practiced that you'd swear the work had be done with a milling machine. I hope this might come in handy for you sometime - I know you're a student of techniques of the "old ways." Now I'm wondering if I could build one of those large enough to get a skunk...have to think on that one some! Many thanks for all of your hard work and educational videos.
