The description of the guy searching the house for a cigarette is spot on. You cannot understand unless you've been a smoker and tried to quit. I should know; I've done it many times.

I clearly remember hearing this one live. I had forgotten most of it until he got to the withdrawal voice and then describing running as "gerbil activity" because I still use that phrase to this day when chatting to people about running and exercise in general; and I've always remembered the source.

Do you think the Principle wanted him go quit so HE sent him to Chem Dep?

No, I don't think so: Lyle wanted to become a counselor, and that is why he attended, among other things, a teacher conference. Thanks for listening!

Old Jewish joke. We may have invented guilt but Catholics perfected it. 😅

As a Catholic, I am completely puzzled by non-Catholics talking about Catholic guilt. I don't know any Catholics (in more than 60 years of life) who have a problem with guilt. We have the sacrament of confession to relieve us of guilt and set us free from that. "Catholic guilt" is NOT a thing. Why keep lying and saying it is, if you're not Catholic and know nothing about it? Oh, right, because it's always non-Catholics who are 'experts' on the Catholic Church... It makes us kind of fed up, ya know? Of the ignorance, bigotry, and stereotypes that come from Protestantism and have nothing to do with us? Next you'll be telling us we 'worship statues,' 'contact the dead', 'believe the pope will save us' and 'don't have the Bible.' Lies, lies, lies... Read the Catechism of the Catholic Church, ASK an actual CATHOLIC who practices the faith - not someone who feels guilty for leaving the faith - and get your facts straight. Because we are tired of the last acceptable bigotry being anti-Catholic bigotry. Stop telling LIES about us invented by Protestants 500 years ago. It's not like it's hard to find out what the Catholic Church actually teaches, believes and practices. It's PROTESTANTS who are consumed by guilt because they have NOTHING to do with it, no way out of it, no sacrament of confession. Duh.

@@FigaroHey A good friend who was raised Catholic and went to Catholic schools, but who hasn't practiced her faith for any of her adult life, doesn't suffer from "guilt". She says it's the fear and dread of eternal hell fire and damnation that she says she'll never get over. She wouldn't take birth control pills because she "just knew" she'd suffer eternal hell fire for doing so. But she didn't have a problem sending her husband in for a vasectomy! LOL! It completely amused me, but she was dead serious, even though we did often laugh together over these hang-ups. She was beautiful but had a mouth like a drunken sailor, which apparently didn't send her to hell, but there were certain things that she absolutely wouldn't do for fear of damnation.
