This was just beautiful. It brings back a lot of sweet memories. Sweet memories which I think most of us have in our own different ways. Thank you, my friend.

Forget what @mikhall says... this is the time where I remember where I put my cushy sandles, and also that it is an excellent idea to put a house robe or any sort of clothing before going out to check if one's perennials are blooming at 6:45 in the morning! ;)

He's a World Class Storyteller. My wife and I live i Boston. We often go to the harbor.... look over the water - and listen to one of his stories or two. What a wonderful capacity to weave words into a fabric of life.... sadly a life that has pass by. Young kids have no clue. Love Mr. Keilor.

I can't say much more or word it as well as others have already said here but the story along with the marvelous music and singing brought tears to my eyes and made my chest tight and ache with my own memories also.

Thank you so much for posting this. Besides the lovely soprano, it brings back many memories of Sunday afternoons listening to this show on NPR. Good days. Your kindness is very much appreciated.

Who is the wonderful soprano (or mezzo) singing on this recording? He very rarely includes music in his News From Lake Wobegon. His rendition of Girl From The North Country brought unexplained wonderful tears to my eyes. I’m guessing that Rich Dworsky (sp?) is on piano, but I don’t remember who his stand-up bass player was around that time. Pete Ostrushko (sp?) on violin maybe? I think this was during his time at New York’s Town Hall, but he went all over the country. …But whose heavenly voice floated above this delicate story?

1. Maria Jette, soprano; Peter Ostroushko didn't perform in this show. Performers: Garrison Keillor, Sue Scott, Tim Russell, Tom Keith, The Guys All-Star Shoe Band: Richard Dworsky, piano; Andy Stein, fiddle, tenor sax; Pat Donohue, guitar; Greg Hippen, bass; Arnie Kinsella, percussion. Thank you for listening!
