Your daughter's saw review was adorable! Do a video on building the Stihl 500i. Make a timed cut when the saw is stock, and every time you upgrade a part on it make another timed cut so we can see how much each upgrade improves the saw.

I was running this saw for about 2 hours at about a 30-50% duty cycle kzfaq.infoUgkxfQm1wmg0ItKDLavxj1nXtQY9HP7EF504 and it did a great job. I used the lever for the built in sharpener to clear chip buildup out more than to actually sharpen the chain. It managed to cut some hardwood stumps much larger than it's size without bothering the neighbors with hours of 2 stroke noise.

@GuiltyOfTreeson Find a metal fabrication shop and have them make a full-wrap handle for your custom MS261. They should be able to TIG one up to your specification. You could mock one up out of coat hanger wire to show them the shape you want

Excellent points on the porting and light bar’s on the smaller unit’s being way less noticeable than the longer bar’s and bigger saw’s! Excellent guidance for the younger climbers who have these choices to make.

Hi Guys, I'm Happy to see that I'm not the only one to love the MS661C, I have had mine for about 5 years and its my favorite among my collection of around 10 saws so far( mix of Stihl and Husky). I have put quite a few hours on my stock MS 661 CM Milling and it is still the easiest starting and most powerful saw I own.

Yes, thank you for doing this. I find these sorts of videos invaluable when trying to figure out which thing to buy without going through a painful (monetarily) experience over and over again. I don't watch these sorts of things for entertainment. It's useful research!

Appreciate your comment about the length of the bar when standing to buck. The length of the bar matching your leg length. Your have a leg length of 32 inches, so your back is not under as much stress when you have a 32 inch bar and helps not grounding the chain. I have found the same as I have a 28 inch leg length and now run a 28 inch bar. So much easier on my back and your right, do not have the problem with grounding the bar as much. Good information.

The best smaller top handle saws are the echos . If u want a light saw with power just get an echo and you'll spend like less than half the money and they last 10 to 15 years easy . The newest echo top handle only weighs 5 pounds

just a counter point to the full wrap handle...which are great, I put a full wrap on my 460 and brought it to work as a backup saw to the stock 462 I normally run with a regular handle. I was felling and bucking 30" white oak for lumber and the boss want all the knots, limbs, crotches, or butt swells all flushed off for the mill (they pay more at the mill if they dont have to flush the logs themselves) and I was running my saw with the full wrap and it was constantly in the way. I switched back to the other saw with the stock handle because it is so much easier to flush of knobs and things. also I usually lay the saw down on that side when I strap it to the rack on my quad during maple season, it jiggles around less....just my preference and the full wrap doesnt allow that.... just two quirky situations I found full wrap to impede my production...just food for thought, carry on

Good review there... I’ve found the Husqvarna 372xp to be a crazy great all around saw here on the east coast. Handles the oaks and maples without a problem.

I bought not to long ago the stihl 661 for chainsaw milling. Added Egan muffler and maxflow air intake system with 36” bar. It’s a beast of a saw.

Yeah I would definitely recommend checking out some more Husqvarnas. From my experience I would steer clear of the top handle the ones though unless it's that battery powered one that you have. I made the mistake of messing around with the husky top handle saws 15 years ago is when they had like the 335s or whatever they were. They were absolute garbage on their own. But when compared to the Stihl 020s and 200s they were even more obsolete. So needless to say I steered clear of their top handles but I continued to use their medium and larger size like the 395 and the 372 and the 357. Boy those three saws were amazing. You already know about the 395. But the 372 just rocks as the next step as you need a bigger saw from the 261 for removals Crane or otherwise. I'm a big fan of the ms261 as well. It's a great saw. That one of yours looks like it's a beast. How much does it cost to get a saw ported and all those upgrades? I've owned a couple 372s and they both are amazing. And the 357 is a good one too. I don't know if they make those anymore but I hope they do because that's all is like a macgyver. Use it on the ground in the tree from a bucket climb with it crane with it. Freaking either MacGyver or mcgruber. So due to my love for husky saws and my want for them to have a decent top handle saw I made the unfortunate mistake of buying a t540 gas and the t435 gas🤞🖕🖕👋. Boy did they both suck. I had high hopes like I said. I saw reviews of the t540 by reg and a couple other people. I think what happened everybody was sick of the 201 after first came out and they said fuck Stihl and as an act of rebellion people started buying those husky top handles including me. The 435 fell apart and needed to work all the time and was a no power. The 540 was actually pretty good it had tons of power it was well balanced I think it weighed the same as a 201. But the biggest drawback and the most maddening and irritating and not acceptable part of it was it would not start warm!! You could be in the tree and hang it on your belt to rig off your next piece. And in between the couple minutes or so or maybe 5 minutes depending on if you're craning stuff or not... In those precious moments something happened to the saw. It turned into a fucking sorry ass puta or something because you go to grab and I'm getting ready to make it another brilliant rig happen and it won't start. You're standing there in your spikes freaking yanking back and forth on this fucking pull cord and it just won't start. That's after it's already been warmed up for a while or even use. So try to choke it or do whatever and then maybe after 20 pulls of the cord it'll start sputtering and maybe we'll finally get to moving again. I got so tired of it I was straight out of the tree one time. Eventually I gave up on it and went and got a Ms 201 cm and nothing starts on one or two poles every time especially when it's warm. Anyways take care I'm a subscriber. I enjoy your content it's not pretentious or cocky or condescending it's good stuff.

I have used Echo and Husky saws. I love the Huskies, so I bought a Redmax GZ3500T and it rips. Such a good saw.

I agree with the wrap handle .I cut in newyork state and have my stihl dealer order wrap model saws for me. They ask why do you like them ,i am left handed so the more grip options i can have the better.Thanx for the videos .

The reason (I believe) they sell the 880 without full wrap by default is because out east we cut on the ground sir! 6” of walnut can’t be wasted. If you’re cutting big hardwoods, one really wants to have the bar right on the ground. Wonderful video sir. Big fan.

Use to run a homelite 2100 with a 6' bar. It was great when cutting 6' and bigger trees. Pioneer made great saws also.

Got to see my first 500i with the 28 lightweight bar it’s a beauty!

When I lived a little closer to the West coast I had the opportunity to run full wrap saws and I loved it. Out East, hardly anyone runs them, and the reason I usually hear is that the clutch side wrap gets in the way when you're low stumping. Some of the guys I work with still leave kinda high stumps though, so who knows?

I wished you were closer to Arkansas because I have built numerous custom 1/2, 3/4, and full wrap handles I generally I would have you come by so we can go over exactly what you want but maybe we can come up with a way to do it via video chat. I have done handles for a customer that had an amputation and still wants run a saw but a regular handle put the balance point in the wrong place, I also built one with a dirt bike style twist throttle because the guy was tired of his son borrowing his saw so he made it to where his son hated running it. Most of the time my customers are professional loggers that don't like the spacing, angles, or hand position of the commercially available handles. All my handles are made from 7075 aluminum and have a lifetime no questions asked guarantee against cracking or breaking.

Ima stihl guy.. everybody round south alabama is too. So there are more dealers and more friends with parts saws to bum from... I have more experience with working on them, and their style of making saws. I own 2 200ts as well... But folks .. i gotta admit . My favorite go climbing saw, is the little echo 2511. And i been seeing more and more of them...i cant even feel it on my saddle anymore.. it has its limitations.. but if you keep that chain razor sharp, its good for anything ts bar size will handle... There is a hugs difference in my energy level after working with the 200, and ths 2511... My buddy has a ported , supped up 2511, and its competion for a stock 201t.

I learned something from this video. Buy Husqvarna if you want to use it out of the box. Buy Stihl if you have time to ship it cross country, have it tuned and ported, and returned to you provided you paid for your new saw to be "fixed" in advance.

Man this video was very helpful... I've been slowly collecting gear to go help an arborist on the weekends and start learning the trade so far I started with a shitty black max Chinese saw that in waiting on parts for. A huskie 135 on its way eith 16 to 20 inch bar coming with it. But importantly I found an echo 2511T 14in in good running condition and good body condition for 100 bucks. I live in kansas and the thickest trees we probably have are bigger oaks and maples so this gave me an idea of what I really need saw wise. Was just going to buy the basic climbing and rigging gear until I help someone and they can show me exactly what I'll need.

Jake, interesting you changed your 880 to 3/8th, never thought of that, I've got 404 skip tooth square ground (You and big Mike got me on to this) and make sure I'm light on the pressure till I get it nose down in the wood, boy does it make long chips. I find it doesn't get blunt as quick as my 3/8th. Very nice saws with good filters and bark boxes. I've got an old 460 with a bark box and square ground, it is insane, better than my 660. Keep up the good work mate.

Just look at that clean husky filter, air injection is awesome, just tap the filter with the scrench after a day of work and you are good to go.

The name „Stihl“ is pronounced the second variant you said. In german your first variant would be written „still“. A double „L“ would make the vocal short and a „h“ after a vocal stretches it.

I’d guess that you have a nucleus of three or four that get used more than any others.? Was wondering what the blue tape on the handles on some saws is about?
