I want a small kill switch that fits on the les paul pick guard by the bridge pickup....a thin switch. So I don't have to drill the face of the body....just the pick guard. Pick guards are a dime a dozen. If someone makes a thin switch it should fit on the pick guard. Can run the wires under the pick guard to the pickup ring and down through the pickup route. I put one into a les paul via the back and just tested it without drilling a hole in the body....it was a little poppy. I'm wondering about the capacitor mod....maybe a cap in series with the hot wire from the switch. It only takes 5 minutes to wire it to the jack just to test it.

Mike Cutler is probably as good as anyone in the country at generalized guitar repair. Yes, not just Tucson but the U.S. He can also do some cool trick mods. Say you are looking at a new guitar on a trial period? Bring it to Mike for the proper once-over. Mike charges a fair price and does extremely clean and precise work. Even if you live in the Phoenix area...depending upon what you need done...it could be worth the drive. He is that good.

The Sanwa switch has the best feel and reaction time of anything else,way better than the cheap plunger style buttons everyone sells plus its rated for 1,000,000 hits.Nobody utilizes it more than Buckethead and its what he prefers so you know its good.A little noisy on clean channel but with mild to heavy distortion you arent really going to notice much "pop" .Highly recommended,thanks for the video !

Using a normally closed alwows you to wire them up in a more unique way. You need to add another toggle. But you can use that toggle to switch the button to either kill the signal or let it through.so youll get sound either when you puch the button or when you let go. I prefer to wire them up so i only GET signal when the button is pressed, but its really up to the taste of the player.

Watch out because LEDs aren`t supposed to be plugged directly into a 9V battery without a proper resistor (~150 ohms I think) as it is not meant to be running 9V. You could burn the LED with that testing you did.

Hi, I have a question that I wish you could answer. I had 3 killswitch, the first was a button of those that cost not more than a dollar, a small button, then change it for a slightly more expensive, like the one that used buckethead in 2006, and in the end I bought the button of arcade that currently uses buckethead, and the problem is that the 3 buttons to press them worked but not correctly, bone, 10 times that I pressed only a 5 or 6 times the signal was cut, and I do not know if it will be guitar problem , like wiring or something that has to do with current or is problem of the button, what can I do? please if anyone could help me :( PD: I do not speak much English, I helped with a translator, I hope you understand a little what I wrote lol
@Corrupt-R
@Corrupt-R 6 жыл бұрын
Hello! If the switch works sometimes but not others I'm assuming it's a problem with the button. I would make sure you are buying a "Sanwa" button which is the brand used in arcade machines, they seem to work really well. If that's what you are already using then I guess I would try another button just in case yours is defective, and also check the wiring just in case something has a loose connection. Good luck!

@Corrupt-R
@Corrupt-R 4 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks for the sub and the kind words, much appreciated! So there's no reason I can think of that you couldnt install a killswitch into a Tele, it all works the same way. One important thing to note however is a killswitch on a clean channel sounds kind of crappy, you can hear a subtle pop on clean channel every time you engage the killswitch and it's pretty annoying. It works great on high gain settings though and there are no audible pops or clicks. Aside from that there are no negatives to putting it in your guitar other than the same negatives for any guitar, which is having to drill a hole in your guitar to install it and you have to make sure there is room in the back cavity for it to fit.

Hey thanks for watching! In my experience yes all killswitches are noisy when using them on a clean tone setting. However with your gain turned up the noise goes away (or at least is no longer noticeable). This is probably why I've never heard a song using a killswitch on a clean channel. Some good tips in the video. But it seems more like an advertisement for this guys shop rather than a tutorial and review. Pretty sure he's a good luthier and everything. But this is a really simple modification where you are essentially just using a switch to ground the whole circuit. In layman's terms just connecting the hot lead to ground via the switch. Justifying $100 maybe for alot of woodwork on the guitar. This circuit has one problem that no one seemed to have solved and that is the popping sound when switching. Cannot notice so much with distortion. But on clean its noticeable. Not a biggie though. All in all it's a real simple installation and requires just four solder points which anyone can do with some basic soldering skills. This video would be useful if they gave advice on remedying the popping etc. Everything else was nothing new except for the recommendation of the aracde style button. But which arcade button? Found out more useful info from other poster's comments than from the video.
@Corrupt-R
@Corrupt-R 4 жыл бұрын
Hello! Thanks for the comment! So yeah this video is from several years ago and my friend Mike (luthier) was kind enough to come over and talk about the modification so I just wanted to give his shop a good shoutout. You're right though we didn't go in depth into the actual process which I would have liked to have done. Since we did the video at my studio instead of his shop we couldn't really show a whole lot and we're forced to mostly just talk about it. I guess at the time my main goal for the video was to give people a general idea of what is involved if you decide to do it, and then what some of the possibilities are musically once you have it installed. You make a good point though and in hindsight I wish we could have filmed the actual process of the installation. Unfortunately my youtube channel isn't quite big enough to devote that kind of time to it just yet, but hopefully I can go back and redo some of these old videos and make them more comprehensive. Thanks for watching and your feedback!

@@Corrupt-R I do appreciate that he took time to come by and do a video for youtube watchers. That was nice of him. Yes. Would be very useful to see an installation video for other viewers. Not sure if you notice on your guitar but mine has this small static popping sound when switching. Its not that noticeable with distortion but on clean it is. I don't think anyone has figured out how to remedy that yet as even dedicated switch harness sellers like iron age pretty much say it's to be expected. Whatever the case as long as it doesn't bother you it's fine. The tip about using arcade buttons was actually very useful. But providing a link and name of the button you use would be very helpful for viewers and something alot of us would like to know. But again doing a video on the spot and thinking about a dozen other things to talk about you can easily lose your train of thought I'd assume. All in all it WAS a useful video to some degree and thank you for sharing. Btw, really like your playing and sound with the use of the switch.
@Corrupt-R
@Corrupt-R 4 жыл бұрын
@@2cool4u24 You're definitely right about the popping noise on clean tone, as a matter of fact it's so bad that I consider a killswitch on clean tones to be pretty much useless. I don't know why it happens, but my best guess is it's the same principle as a "pop" that happens in recordings if you just cut a sound clip suddenly without a fade out of any kind. If I'm right about that, that would mean that somehow a killswitch would have to fade out the signal quickly instead of cut it abruptly. I can't think of a way to realistically do that, but I'm no expert on electronics so maybe there would be a way. Really just guessing though :) Also thanks for the recommendation to include a link! I thought sure I had done that but I guess I didn't lol. I just added one in the description to a 12 piece set of buttons in different colors. Also an amazon search for "Sanwa button" will give all the proper results. Appreciate the feedback man thanks! Also thanks for the kind words on my playing, really appreciate it!

@@Corrupt-R Yes. I think we will just have to live with it. But on distortion it sounds fine so it's definitely useable. Also even using the killswitch method using the selector switch (Tom Morello) introduces a similar static or pop. Selector switch is so hard to use though lol. Don't know how tom pulled it off so well. Thanks for the link btw. Wow they are so cheap. I was considering using a push switch which was alot more money but thanks to your video ordered up a bunch of arcade buttons instead. You saying the other one being too stiff and the arcade ones being easier to push was a really good tip. Thanks.

@@2cool4u24 No problem! Yeah the bad part about the arcade buttons is they go pretty deep so you have to make sure the area of the guitar you put it in is thick enough for it. Once you get it in there though I can't imagine a better killswitch. I mean if you think about it, arcade buttons are meant to be highly responsive and stand who knows how many thousands of presses before they give out. I'm still using the same button for all these years with no issues. Let me know how it turns out!!
