In this guitar lesson I'll show you how to take 2 very basic chords and play fill licks along with them to create a very laid back, easy jam session. This is a great technique for playing solo guitar (no accompaniment).

Active Melody is a recent discovery for me and, to be honest, I’ve only recently arrived at this level of playing but I’m absolutely hooked! Really well structured, concise and precise instruction and I’m finally starting to learn all those little things that make the guitar sing. Thank-you!

It's amazing how music is only a few notes but everyone puts them together in a different way, I love this style of playing, I call it bouncing around the chords but haven't really use Am, sounds really cool, almost reminds me of Dr hook when I was a kid listening to my dad play

Also lesson 146, I listened to alot of other takes on youtube. Just scratching for straws . I have to say your presentation of it appealed to me the most. Brian, you are one under-rated guy. I listen to lot of stuff where players gather to tell us where is the best place to learn guitar. All the big names get thrown in. I always take that opportunity to say, "Have you ever listened to Brian on Active melody?".

This is such a perfect practice technique because with the caged system you can play these chords all over the neck in triads or 6th intervals etc and you can just go for 20 minutes and its an ideal practice mechanism

Another nice, clear, and useful lesson! I always come away with useful new ideas from your lessons. In this one, I particularly notice the guitar: I love guitars with slotted headstock! I have a couple. This one probably cost a pretty penny. And I notice (OK, I'm a bit OCD :)) that you wound the strings "wrong" - at least as far as Martin folks tell us. The strings are rubbing against the very nice headstock.

It's a steel string acoustic with steel strings. The headstock is slotted, which some steel string guitars have, which gives it a classical guitar look. The body of the guitar is a parlor style body.
