Thank you for this. I have had this printed out in my tabulature book for about 6 years and never bothered to take the time to learn it, even though it is one of my all time favourite PJ songs. Took the time to look this up today and watch.... learned the intro/verse in about 30 minutes thanks to this video! Thank you! Will take the time to learn the chorus and bridge over the next day or two!

Obviously EV isn't a shredding guitar player but I think he's very underrated. His songs are so awesome and I always learn something new. Thanks Ryan. Great stuff. Best tutorials on KZfaq
@RyanLendt7 жыл бұрын
I'll agree. EV is very creative and does exactly what is called for. The shredding is what MM is for :) Frontmen who solo are awkward anyway :P Hehe there's too many of my thoughts - thanks always for the kind words Nick, surfs up!!!

I could talk music for days. Especially when it comes to PJ. Surf was def up today. Got knocked around lol. Enjoy your weekend. Look forward to your next video. 🤙🏼

Subscribed!! This is one of my favorite PJ songs for 2 reasons 1. The chord voicing is just brilliant on this which definitely adds flavor to this ballad 2. The songwriting is again brilliant from Vedder. The lyrics are so deep Why don't you make a cover of this song? All Pearl Jam fans would love it. I would certainly love it.
@RyanLendt7 жыл бұрын
Well said Suhail :) I wholeheartedly agree. And thank you for that request... perhaps the mood will strike :) I'll add that to the list!

Thank you for this. Worked much of this out, but was struggling with the bridge - every tab I looked at had that first chord as a Dm, which just didn’t sound right to me. Definitely subscribing 👍😊
@RyanLendt2 жыл бұрын
the bridge being 'I let go of the rope?' if so, I have since figured out that the chord is x8798x which I believe is an Fmaj7add9 - and funnily enough i figured it out bc that same shape in a different position is the crux of one of my songs and I was moving it around for fun one day when I said HEY - that's the mystery chord in TMW!
@CaptainBlackadder752 жыл бұрын
@@RyanLendt That’s a great sounding chord. Funny how one chord can suddenly jump out at you and take you to a different song, almost like a scent can take you to a memory from years gone by. So how does that bridge chord sequence go now, from “I let go of the rope”, to “wrapped around my neck”? Thanks for the reply, and keep up the great work! 😊

So here is a cool update. I'm in the US on business, needed a break, ended up at a guitar store, pulled down a guitar, played part of The Rain Song and this song, bought it, then came back to this vid and low and behold, the guitar I bought is the Taylor 814 CE.... ;-)..... Looks like the same that you are playing. Still the best teacher on youtube!
@RyanLendt5 жыл бұрын
man this was hard to find haha... YOU BOUGHT AN 814!?? wow that's a beaut! mine's a 410 :) great choice Bill! I hope you sailed to the US... and solo :)
@Sailingbill15 жыл бұрын
Hey, AH, I thought it was a match to what you had.... anyway, yup 814! Cant put it down. I'm a Martin guy, but this thing, wow. Fell in love at the first strum. Thanks again for all of your videos. Solo Atlantic crossing is on my list. Good guess ;-)

This old lady says thanks. I'm self taught (45 years ago) which means I don't know much. I think I'll be able to eventually get this right. If I can't transpose it for my vocal range maybe I can use a capo.
@RyanLendt6 жыл бұрын
Peggy! Thank you so much for chiming in :) I'm glad you found that helpful - and yes, the voicings for that song are so very specific that you won't be able to just change chord shapes and get the same thing done... just capo it!
@peggymiller3136 жыл бұрын
Thank you! EV does have a long pinkie finger. I've tried over and over to play "Just Breathe" the way he created it. I can't do it. I finally just gave up and play my own version of picking it. I covered and recorded it and it was played at my husband's funeral 18 months ago.

Amazing tutorial as always, but, I noticed in the song, that there are slightly different chords being played at "All the rusted signs". I don't know what chord you call it but it looks like a regular D chord but at the 7th E string.???
