Really glad Greg is here to do Thumpin' Thursdays - we've really needed a genuine, bad ass bass player. Agnesi would always make fun of bass guitars, and Lemmo is an amazing guitarist - but Greg fills the niche those of us who love bass, have been looking for. Spot on.

Brought my 1973 Rickenbacker 4001 Bass in Feb 1974. Still have it to this day, July 11, 2024. 2-3 small nicks on the head stock, and one small one on the back of the body. Not Bad considering I had it with me while traveling across 4 different continents and back home. Love the sound when using flat wounds.

I feel that Everytime I pick up a RIC 4001 that my brain involuntary starts playing the opening riff of Dragonaut by SLEEP! It’s the ultimate riff to get the idea of that low round sound that you are talking about. I like how you compared it to having almost a piano low string with that semi percussive feel!! Well put! Oh the riff i was speaking about is also a great bell wether for testing a bass wah pedal. 4001 with Wah equals untouchable Badassery!!! Great video and a absolute beautiful example of the 4001.

My 1957 Ricky bass is prestereo but I used to chain two Plush amp stacks when we played for a stereo effect. 2-15 folded horn cab behind me to vibrate my body. Then other plush stack with the guitarist Vinnie Lauria was TWO 4-12 cabinets stacked next to his Marshall. Great sound. Because it was so old the Rickenbacker factory told me to only use flatwounds which have always been my signature sound.

I have the same exact bass. Still have the Grover tuners but the nut broke some time ago and was replaced with a black one. Mine is slightly less yellowed than the one in the video. Thanks for sharing this video of this historic bass guitar! Oh, and I used to split the pickups to two different amps when playing live. A Model T Sunn amp to a 8 X 10" bottom and a Sunn Concert Bass to a folded horn 2 X 15" bottom. Wow, was lots of equipment to carry!

In any event, thanks for the video it was great to watch!
