Crazy... Was just thinking the other day how cool it would be to see a G&L on GOTD...

I have this exact guitar, and it records incredibly well. The magnetic field coil pickups are killer, and the tremolo system is amazing. Also, FYI, the trem arm can be locked in and even adjusted to be just tight enough to stay where you want it. Great playing, as always!

G&L’s are so excellent. As usual, great playing, I do love that dual fulcrum wavy bar. Fender has tried recreating that without stealing the patent I think on their ultra luxe, (which I have and love dearly) but it’s just not the same as the G&L. Also on my legacy and I guess most g’s the tones are basically bass and treble, not the typical treble no treble lol. Lotta great stuff. Anyways I’m rambling. Thanks for this great GOTD excellent playing!

I own three original SC2's. I play G&L exclusively Bass and guitars. 80's to early 90's rock Los Angeles

G&L is one of the most underrated and underappreciated guitar brands around. They're typically better than most Fender guitars which can cost 2-3 times as much. Leo Fender was a great guitar designer and builder.

1 year old but I come back to this one time and again. What a great groove. Leo’s ‘student’ guitar in the right hands…

I have a 2007 G&L SC2 in Red with the Saddle Lock. Sweet guitar!

Michael’s playing and song selection as always was wonderful; but that G&L guitar in my estimation is one of the best sounding that has been featured on GOTD.

I helped with the reissue of this guitar. The 1980's version was pretty much a student model. The original version had no body contour. This newer version has the contour and a better neck profile.

Not familiar with G&L, but need to check them out. Great sounding guitar with a clear and punchy tone. 🎸 🎶

The jumbo MFD pickups are fantastic. I got my ASAT Special/Deluxe for half price and it's easily my favourite guitar. The fit and finish are as good as you would get anywhere, but the pickups are something else.

Beautiful tone. I love the Jazz Master style and the single coil tones. Just makes you want to play while watching a sunset on the coast while sipping wine.

Great tone, cool guitar!

Finally! Been asking to see one these on GOTD for years! The cleans are always great on an SC-2. Unfortunately, we didn't get to hear the punch those things have with some added drive. They sound so organic and detailed with those pickups. I recommend checking out the NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert video featuring Lydia Loveless playing "Head." Her lead guitarist, Todd May has used an old SC-2 for years and I just love the way it sounds in that video. And it's Lydia Loveless, so the song is amazing.

About time you did a G&L on GOTD! I remember when the SC models came out, about 1984. The SC-2 was my favorite of the bunch. I love those Large MFD (Magnetic Field Design) pickups-best-sounding pickups G&L makes. They still use them on the ASAT Special. Regarding the loose trem arm-there’s a grub allen screw on the rear of the arm socket to tighten up the arm tension. All you need is the correct allen wrench.

Lemmo's playing is great as usual, but the rather anemic low end of MFDs is the reason I swapped out the pickups in my ASAT Classic semi-hollow, which is a very well made guitar.

I own that guitar in cream. Sounds just like this. How many guitars sound this good and clear and full in the neck?

I'll never part with mine, it is the best sounding guitar I have ever owned. It sounds similar to the ASAT Special but is livelier with more harmonics.

G&L is the final evolution of Fender’s ideas on the tremolo and pickups. On the lookout for a Skyhawk with the 3 pickups in trans-blue or trans-orange (I’d have to see the wood grain to really decide, if trans-orange looks like a basketball, I’m going for it), though that will have to wait until after I get my tax refund (it’s always so slow, but if I owed them “pay us now or else!”)

hehe Lemo these G&L pups are very spiky due to their low wind/high inductance ratio. You're CLIPPING the mic with these. MFDs really enjoy some light compression.

Like a pint sized jazzmaster crossed with a melody maker. The ultimate trem I imagine just less weight to anchor you like a jazzmaster when you are whammying. Vintage tone definitely, if some say not enough bass, I bet it sits nicely in a mix with many types of music - kirk hammets not going thrash it out but that's not what it was designed for. I had to laugh a bit at lemmo - if he can't get a jazzmaster on the show it's the closest thing. Overall a cool retro guitar. One caveat - this guitar would have made an interesting spec check. The history of Leo fender and fender beyond fender might not have been apparent to some people. Some might not have heard Mark agnesi tell the story 4 years ago. Something to think about. Having completed my fifth album - thunderwords are go I am listening in depth to my channel overall so far. I would not recommend what I do not enjoy/benefit from myself. I've been giving both G&L and Ernie Ball a bad rap since I started playing guitar in '95, just because they're "not the original". Could it be argued that I should ditch that mindset since Leo Fender was involved at the beginning of both outfits?

As usual Michael's playing is cool. The guitar sounds ok partly because of the player. Is there a shortage of rare vintage guitars? Where are the old Martins, Gibsons, and Fenders? I'm sure many tune to this site to see and hear these old beauties, not just reissues and guitars from the 80's on. BTW that case is a joke. The fit is a few sizes too big. Not trying to win a t shirt. Just giving constructive criticism. Norm we miss you. When the boss is not on the job it's just not the same. Hoping you have a swift and compete recovery. You're the man.

Michael should have his own channel, I'm telling you, he would be right up there with Ichika, Manuel, Music is Win, Yvette, Paul Davids. His playing is so tasteful. I'm current saving to buy a new ( old ) strat from Norman's solely because of this guy's ability.
