Ryogen uses a single guitar for his live concerts and recordings, and yet his amazing technique makes it sound like multiple instruments are being played, earning him the nickname "the solo guitar orchestra."He entertains and mesmerizes audiences with a vast variety of sounds, from classical to world music, and also plays as part of a band.

Ryogen, he died on 18th September 2017 for a cancer. He had been fought against the cancer in during last few years. As you can see from this performance, he was a young, very talented guitarist and a musician. I hope many people will remember this artist, and the performance as much as possible. R.I.P

The fact he is playing while fighting cancer in this video means a lot to me. Doing what he loves - not focused on anything else. Sharing his passion and music till he couldn’t anymore. Beautiful music, beautiful soul. May I meet you someday, somehow, somewhere brother. May your music and passion teach others as it has taught me. Thank you.

all the thumbs down are sad to see. I have been playing guitar for 22 years and this guy may not have the most virtuosity I have ever seen but he certainly has his own style and is creating a mood and expressing himself in a very honest and beautiful way, and his use of electronic looping is seamless. I can tell he has put a lot of time into developing his craft.

Let's be real here for a second: yeah he is using pedals to get the sound but have you guitar players forgotten that they're just tool. Listen and watch closely or have you forgotten what that was like when you first started learning? Get a sense of his timing and rhythm, his techniques, and more importantly how he simply isn't playing but creating something. It's not all technical. People forget too easily that playing an instrument looses all purpose when the player doesn't add something of their self to what they do. And that goes for anything in life. So be real: this guy is phenomenal and if you could do half of what he can then congrats. Be proud of yourself but stay humble and learn even more.

As mentioned by some he has recently passed away, only 11 months after this performance. Fighting against cancer he lost his hair, and I believe since then he has gone into the idea of body painting. Putting the fact aside, I feel his music is truly coming from his inner soul. To me he was and still is a true artist. Anybody who has a say about the style should search “ryogen guitar”. Often he was more aggressively percussive and that too was fun to listen or see. By the time of this performance he should have been aware his condition was far from perfect. However even after this date he kept on fighting and performing until the very last moment. I can only respect for the guts he has shown. Sorry for the long post but I thought there are things worth mentioning. R.I.P. Ryogen. I hope your music continues to live in one’s heart.

A phenomenal player. This music will not mean much to casual listeners. Only the ones who plays the instrument knows what he is doing. And indeed it is phenomenal. Beyond words. Totally one of a kind. Not just the technical prowess that he has, but on top of it ,he adds his own story + emotion + feel + depth and dimension to an experience of the vast water body deep inside where life just blooms in its totality. I just knew recently that he died . He played magnificently beyond words.

There is a lot more going on here than a lot of the cynical musicians in the comment sections are appreciating. I've been playing guitar for 20 years and am a guitar teacher at a music school and I thought the song itself, the use of visual art, and the tasteful application of electronic effects made a beautiful piece of work here.

The whole composition, using more than 4 notes, the atmosphere, the mastering of the instruments... Well, everything is composing the music, doing the same kind of job than Mozart or Bach. Me too . I like YANNI, BACH, Himekami, until I heard his music, I was deeply impressed by him, his music transcends the shackles of classical and religion, and involves the most fundamental things, just like miracles!

Sure he might not be objectively super skilled. But I don't think that was the point. I think it was more sound design and atmosphere. Which at least I think he nailed.

Wow... This was incredible. I can't believe how so many see this as just delay, echo, and other effects. Watch again and pay attention to the artificial harmonics he's doing as other techniques as well to make something that sounds so simple, yet complex and very beautiful. Deep. This guy should be on CandyRatRecords with the rest of their roster imo.

I dunno man. I'm not convinced. I found the digital effects overpowering and unnecessary in places. Also: the poor tone of the piezo pickup was really distracting when he was actually playing stuff.

I agree with a lot of people on here. Yes it's pretty... but it's not complex. My first thought when he did artificial harmonics was... "I want to hear those with the effects off to see how many he is actually achieving." The delay is set so that it sounds a lot more complex than it is. If you watch his picking hand, it's really not doing much. That's why people are making jokes about the head swirl getting him the gig. :)
