🕐 TIMELINE 🕘 [0:00] INTRO & INFO [0:46] DEMO 1 with effects [5:06] DEMO 2 without effects Upgrading the pots in your electric guitar can be a great way to add some extra tone to your axe, The value of the pot play's a large role in the brightness of your tone and how the pot will interact with your pickups. Usually for single coils we use 250K for humbuckers 500K and for some other guitars like Telecaster or Jazzmaster 1Meg, In this demo i use mini alpha pots on a Squier Mustang HH guitar just to hear the difference between them and get an idea, if you want to upgrade your guitar pots i reccoment to get good quality CTS potentiometers. 👉 Guitar Pots Amazon: amzn.to/3y9eUsd eBay: ebay.us/gw6hZV ▶️ Tutorials/Demos/Other Stuffs: goo.gl/fy4m9H 🔧Equipments: goo.gl/SjER7V 🎧 Listen my Music: smarturl.it/StabosMusic ★★★ Thanks for Watching! ★★★

The video is very straightforward. Love it. So, I have a cheap SSS Strat and its too bright for me. After watching your video I've determined that I prefer the 250K on my guitar's tone knob, but I'm struggling to choose between A250K or B250K. Others say that the A's for Tone and B's for pots. Is this true?

Thanks! Great video. I like the simple, side by side comparison without comment. It really makes it easy to judge what you are hearing, uncontaminated by prejudgments owing to commentary like "notice how much brighter the highs are". Listening cold like this I can simply say "that's too brassy and metallic" or "I like the clear, ringing highs!"

Don't forget that thw cable itself and the amplifier input impedance may reduce the high frequencies in the signal much more significantly then the potentiometers, though especially for single coils the higher pot values may over-exaggerate these frequencies and make the signal sound harsh.

@@mihailmilev9909 Well, the application for 250K potentiometers, is like a traditional Telecaster or Stratocaster style guitars (with two or three single coil pickups respectively). That being said, the proper application 500K potentiometers is Humbuckers (two Single coil pickups wound opposite one-another & put together), the only thing I can think of to be a truly proper application for 1-Meg would be like, the Quad-Rail Humbuckers which are two single coil sized humbuckers put together, which, is technically four single coil pickups put together…

Didn't hear much difference between the 500s and 1000s, so if you have 500s and like it bright, leave them in. If you wanna make it warmer, jump straight to 250s whether you have 500s or 1000s. Or just roll your tone down, lol. But nah, the real question I have is if a treble bleed will make a 250 sound like a 1M or not. I have this idea about having push-pull pots that swap between 1M and 250k, but if my treble bleed is gonna defeat the purpose of the 250k mode, then I might as well not bother with that function and just go all 1M.

Great comparison, thanks for making this video. But I'll go on record and say the differences between the values demonstrated here is so subtle that most guitarists shouldn't even worry about changing pots. Once you throw all your pedals, amps, and pickups at your guitar, are you really still going to be able to tell what kind of pots it has? Or, couldn't you achieve the same by just turning a knob or two on your amp? Not to mention how it'll come across in a full band mix.
@justray510
@justray510 2 жыл бұрын
true, but, a 500k pot will allow more HF thru and that can be treated with the tone pot or the amp. Nothing can ADD frequency that is not there to begin with. I would rather have the frequencies to deal with on my own.

Actually it's part of a low pass filter, so higher frequencies aren't added by higher value pots, but rather high frequencies are cut out by lower value pots. A good example is the Fender Jaguar & Jazzmasters. The rhythm circuit uses only 50k tone pot to cut high frequencies out and get a warm mushy jazz tone, then when you switc to the lead circuit, it uses 1Meg tone pot to retain all that jangly bright tone.

What metal is the casing or the thread of the pot made from has absolutely no effect on tone (or on anything else other than sturdiness). The only thing that affects the sound is the resistance of the pot (and that can and will vary to a fair bit even between the same type of pot because of manufacturing tolerances).

test different values yourself with alligator clips. A .01 the tone is brighter, with a .047 it is darker overall. Use a no-load tone pot and adjust from there or set your amps tone stack. You can't ADD frequency once it has been removed. Don't fall for the paper in oil BS, it's all just to get people to buy. The reason paper in oil was used in the 50's was that is all they had!
