Love this!! The guitarist is Chalmers "Spanky" Alford. Spanky was a legendary gospel guitar player, he later played with and influenced many of of the Neo-Soul artist at the time. Questlove used him on may of his productions. And of course he toured with D'angelo on the Vodoo tour.

But let's also recognize that none other than Anthony Hamilton is singing BGV. It's also worth mentioning that "Chicken Grease" is the little Gbminor guitar (flutter?) strum device. It was made famous by the guitarists in James Brown's band(s). This video is a masterclass.

I just found you today while I was looking at stuff over colter wall and man do you have a way of expressing things. I love your emotion that you put out probably what makes you a top tier KZfaqr LOL🤣!!! I just wanted to say two songs that have given me so much are “Follow You To Virgie” by Tyler Childers and “Nebraska” by Market Junction. Now Market Junction hasn’t really been heard by a lot of people but they have to be some of the best performers out there. Another great song would have to be “Kilby Girl” by the backseat lovers!!!!!

I know you’ve done Althea, and I loved the story you told with it, I’ve had a similar experience with a friend, and although I didn’t send them as much music as you sent your buddy, I did send my friend one song I thought was… moving, significant, spiritual, etc .. that song was Althea. However, I sent him the version from Nassau 1980 (5/16/1980) - the whole show is AMAZING, but this version of Althea is SO different from the version you did, far less bouncy, almost somber.. seems to tell a different story..
