Nick Mason is honestly one of my favorite drummers, sad he's so underrated. His feel is incredible, also those Floyd beats we're way ahead of their time almost hiphopish.

I'm a guitarist and I'm so obsessed by this echoes version that I cannot play it differently anymore. Pompeii is the holy grail of Pink Floyd's live performances.

Pink Floyd changed my life. Pink Floyd was my dad’s favorite band. He passed away when I was 6 in 2003. When I got older I thought Pink Floyd was popular music and was shocked that everyone didn’t know their music. One of the greatest bands ever

I remember seeing this in the same theater used for Star Wars during the day in 1978. The sound system in that theater was state of the art for its time, of course for Star Wars. Well the owner would play this as a midnight movie. It would be packed, and it was marvelous on that giant screen. I was in the 9th grade back then. Me and my friends would watch the last showing of Star Wars ad then stay for this documentary. It was a mind blowing evening at the movies.

The greatness of the Floyd is undeniable... obviously Waters deserves major credit... but the guitar playing from Gilmour is simply orgasmic. Its almost beyond explanation how good he is.

I mustve watched the Pompeii dvd 100 times when i was in high school. I look forward to sharing with my children. Keep up the great work Mike!

On “One of these days” Mason loses a stick and I bet none of you ever noticed because he never missed a beat. Without question this band was made up of the best of each. There are none better, especially a band. Such a shame they fell out with one another but their Live 8 reunion brought tears to my eyes when I saw them all play together again and no, they didn’t lose any of it. It was all there

When I first heard echoes i was thinking " why haven't I heard anyone talk about this masterpiece!?"

After re-watching and a few of your comments, I realized that moving forward I need to not muscle through with tunings that making play-along impossible. I missed so many opportunities in this video, and it’s because I knew I wasn’t in tune with the band. I can do better and I’ll try harder!!

My absolute favorite concert film. I remember my dad playing One of These Days and A Pillow of Winds every night before I went to sleep when we lived in his small ass apartment in Illinois. Used to be amazed at the textures and then immediately fall asleep when that acoustic guitar on Pillow kicked in. We didn't have much at the time, but music got us through. Glad to say my family is doing a lot better now, it feels so nostalgic to look back on the early 70's era of Pink Floyd. This band is something else, and they'll always have a special place in my heart.

The bass groove kills me as soon as It kicks in every time I listen to echoes, sooo good. Also, your reactions are the same as mine every time I listen to this, doesn’t matter how many times you listen to it, and you know what’s coming, it’s still like a kid in a candy store reaction when it happens!

14.30 - I get chills every time I hear that groove. One of the coolest grooves of all time!

I also like the Live in Gdansk version. Different animal, but still. Heartbreaking and touching when you see Gilmour and Wright look at each other and smile. Like they're saying goodbye old friend. Knowing that this is the last time.

I recall seeing this in a small movie theater back when it was released. The house PA was augmented to accomodate the amazing mix. I remember it was aurally spectacular. Thanks for sharing.

I love how PF is so good at taking one idea, even just one chord or one note, and expanding that idea into full 20 min+ songs that always take you somewhere. its hypnotic the way they sound, and they are the perfect example of "more than the sum of its parts"

What some people may not know is that if you watch the whole movie you are introduced to their older music but you also seeing them working on a little something called Dark Side of the Moon in the studio. I can't imagine they had any idea they would be creating an album that would be on the charts for over 700 weeks.

Love your commentary on this. No one grooves like Floyd, that's right, so many layers to their creativity. A big part of the massive sound in this clip is the amphitheater they are playing in, that's why they chose that location. You miss Gilmour? He's still working, and on tour this summer.

Finally, a Pink Floyd reaction from an intelligent person! I've been a huge Pink Floyd fan since the release of their "Meddle" album in 1971, I was 15 at the time. I was fortunately able to see them twice, and one of those was The Wall Concert in 1980. That was in Uniondale Long Island at the Nassau Coliseum, what an incredible show!! I really appreciate your guitar influenced review, I am also a guitarist and David Gilmour is my favorite of all time! To me, no one plays more melodically, or with more emotion and feel than David Gilmour does. He says more with a single note or a pause, than anyone does playing a million notes a minute imo. I'm sure you noticed, (from the rear view), Gilmours' three 100 watt Hiwatt DR103 amp heads stacked! And those WEM cabinets with Fane Crescendo 100 watt 12" speakers, is the shits man! Some say, that combination, (Hiwatt Dr103 head thru Fane Crescendo speakers), is the core foundational tone of David Gilmour. I think I agree with this to some degree, but I also believe Gilmours' use of 1 and a half,.... 2,.... 2 and a half,.... and sometimes incredibly 3, step bends, is also a defining signature of his tone. I was a gigging guitarist back in the 70s, but today I'm strictly an at home player. I have a couple of LPs and Strats,... and my main amp is a Marshall JCM800 Studio Classic 20 watt head thru a 1-12" cab with a Celestion G12M-65 Creamback speaker.

Pink Floyd's grooving is severely underrated.Shine on you crazy diamond parts VI and ESPECIALLY part VIII are *ridiculously* funky. They get tons of credit for their individual playing, the songs, the concepts, the solos but the sheer thick grooves they could pull off when they wanted to were as good as anyone's.

Michael - I am so glad you put this vid out today! I love PF as well, always have. Pompeii is a wonderful recording! I wish I had kept my music training going, but I never did. To watch you dissect the tracks and explain what is going on, is a true joy. I love your expressions, and watching you enjoy and understand what is actually happening in the score is really cool to see. When it is a song like Echoes, one that I really love, it is even more fun and meaningful. I still have my guitars, but I never kept at them long enough to become a true player. So many years wasted. Thank you for what you are doing here. I am a fan.

Considering Gilmour had only been in the band for 4 years and he is playing like this just shows you what an accomplished guitar player he was before joining and even more so 4 years later. Knowbody jams like Floyd did.

I listen to this periodically. I love it. I especially loved the way you can barely find the words to express your love/joy at this piece of music. I have stood in front of people similarly unable to express my flabergastation at it's stupendousness. Groove on, dude.

David Gilmour is the most melodic guitarist in history, and Nick Mason well what can I say. He is an animal on that kit. But it's just incredible the acoustic properties those arenas and ampetheatres have. I visited so many in my time in Germany, I wish I had been born in this era. Seeing this would have been amazing. The greatest band to have ever inspired the masses.

When u did that thing at 9:29 it put a smile on my face cause I remember he does that in the studio version to but not in this one. Just the little drum roll you thought he was gonna do but didn’t because it was done on the studio version put a smile on my face cause I remembered that too!

Nice video on Echoes. Pink Floyd have been my favorite since 1973, i was 3 years old. Started playing guitar in 1982 and have been called Young Gilmour. I appreciate you hear the coordination of silence and the making of music silence can make, then the grooves, the bends, fits and starts Floyd does. Yeah a lot of those older recordings are a little off in their tuning. I'm not sure if its the tape the video was recorded on or if they actually were out of tune... I don't think Rick would've been out of tune in an electric piano so it must be the speed of the tape. And I do that same movement while I'm playing drums. My knees are bouncing to the beat without actually playing anything and it helps keeps time to a tee. Gilmore loves blending the Lydian and blues scales. Love it. He does that lick a lot

So glad to see this on here. That particular Pink Floyd video is by far my favorite, not just song, but sound. Something that occurs in a place like that with so much history and to play that sequence of sounds just feels right. I get chills every time I watch this. Like these guys are playing this song to some higher form that no longer exists and just letting it ring out into space. That is the best way I can describe this.
