Shane, I first discovered this channel when looking up this song as an absolute beginner a year ago. Immediately had to go to something easier after i saw that Bm and that 3 beat G/ C/G combo. Yesterday I revisited the charts, and hacked a way to keep the same strumming pattern on that G > C/G > G in the chorus. To my ears, it sounds better "hammering on" the C/G. And I also use a four fingered G right before the G9, so I just need to move the top two fingers down to make G9. I learnt all these little tricks in your other videos, and managed to put together something that I'm really happy with, albeit something that isn't exactly true to your charts, but I wanted to thank you for your tutorials and your gift of knowledge.

This is another great lesson, boy am I enjoying these in the pandemic. One thing that I did was before the G9 in the chorus during the "I thought by now" I use the *non* big kid G so that the transition from that to the G9 is facile--two of the fingers (3 and 4) are already in place and the other two (1 and 2) can move easily from the G to the G9. I hope Shane blesses this idea. :) Apologies if there is something heinous about it!

Classic song & great lesson Shane! As the story goes, Glenn & Don were having breakfast one morning & in walks this old codger with a young chick attached to his arm. So, Glenn looks at Don and says "She's got those Lyin Eyes". The words no sooner came out of his mouth when they proceeded to write the lyrics on the back of a napkin in about 15 mins! Pure musical genius! Gotta love the Eagles.......................... :)

Great video. Very clear and well-presented. I was just bumming around on KZfaq, looking for ideas for classic rock songs to teach a kid who is a high beginner/low intermediate player and ran across your video. I thought the G9 chord might be too complicated for him, but then I realized that if I taught him the “bluegrass” G shape (3-2-0-0-3-3) for the chorus section it would make it easier. By anchoring his ring and little fingers on the two high strings he only has to make a transition with his index and middle fingers, a skill you’ve already taught with the C/G shape. Voilá! He nailed it with just a bit of repetition. And as a bonus, he now knows three G fingerings in the open position. 😉

I learned this about 40 years ago using a hybrid pick/strum with index finger, to a full picking pattern (Travis style) back to a pick/ strum, with alternating base strings. Admittedly, that is more advanced, and will put someone at an intermediate level. There are hammer ons as well. One also has to move up the fretboard with different voicings as well.

Hi there 😊 So yes you have longer fingers so that is something I don’t have. My hands aren’t super small but I’m really struggling with barre chords because my pinky finger is smaller and weaker. I’ve been playing 3 years and this was the very first song I wanted to learn. However, I got it from ultimate guitar and I always play the simplified version with regular G throughout. It sounds good but I want to play it like you are. One after a year of trying to do barre chords I’m still struggling to get my fingers to move quick enough during a song. I Can almost play the Bm but it’s hit and miss. I have to really slow the song down to get it timely and the biggest problem is my pinky. It never goes where I want it to and it’s just weak. As well, l playing a normal G for 3 years now it’s so very awkward playing a Gmaj7 formation. Thanks for your tutorial and I will start trying to Learn the G maj7 for this song correctly. Any thoughts? Thank you!! Ryan

Outstanding lesson! I like your style. This is the first lesson of yours I've seen -- I will be back. Liked and Subscribed. Just a thought -- in the chorus, I struggle to move cleanly from the "Big Kids' G" to the G9. However, if I can remember to use the other G (the one you show at 1:22) for the second part of the chorus, the move to G9 keeps two anchor fingers and becomes much easier.

Hi Shane when I go to your site it says download sheets, all well and good but how many sheets does it download and is it only for this song ? feeling a bit confused as I don't want 500 sheets to suddenly download :-) would appreciate a bit of info, bye and take care now in these strange Covid times..
