On many CCR songs John's guitar is tuned down a full tone - D G C F A D (Proud Mary, Bad Moon Rising). The combination with the other guitar gives it that unique sound - they're often both playing open chords.

Michael, for future reference, there are a lot of free Chrome extensions that allow you to change the pitch of a youtube video by cents or half steps. The one I use is called Transpose and it works very well. I use it all the time when I'm playing along with a song that slightly out of tune like this one. Free, easy to use, works well, it works instantly too, like you don't have to wait for the video to reload or anything like that. It will solve MANY headaches like this super easy. I recommend!

Or, simply retune your guitar to the track...
@STSGuitar16

@@lungboy69 yeah that works too, but then it takes a little more time to do it that way since you gotta get all six strings right, and then sometimes it varies a bit from there. Just a bit more of a headache. Plus, who wants to retune just for one song? To each his own, but I think that extension is super quick and easy to use, no guitar retuning needed. It's like two clicks and you're set.

CCR is one of those bands that everyone knows and loves at some point in their lives but I don't think we fully appreciate. Especially as musicians. You always hear Beatles, Stones, The Who, The Doors, but rarely CCR and John Fogerty. They left a bigger imprint on American music than they gets credit for.

If you learned to play guitar in the late 60s or early 70s John Fogerty and CCR were huge influences. John launched thousands of garage bands, their songs were very popular even when played really badly. @@ToddSauve I've always been interested in the difference between the three different subsets in that time. I suppose people with brother and sisters would have seen it within their own families. * I was in the middle, you were later. The early guys were the one's worried about getting drafted. I remember hearing a lot of early Dylan, but only later realizing the depth and ambiguity in the writing. The college kids no doubt understood it better than I did. But given the folkie reaction, not all of them. I was in high-school when CCR hit Ed Sullivan. I actually don't remember what they were doing in the early 70s. The irony of great music is that at the time, you have limited resources (no KZfaq), time, and experience. You miss stuff, and always love your own discoveries. But you can always go back. I actually can't remember how many CCR records bought, great as they were. But I know I bought every Beatles and Dylan album by college. I'm virtually certain I missed some gems, CCR and otherwise.
@ToddSauve
@ToddSauve 2 жыл бұрын
@@mikem668 I remember the whole Beatles, CCR and a bit of the Dylan thing. Both the Beatles and CCR broke up at about the same time, 1970-71. I could never understand why any band would break up. I was like 12 or so and my buddies were _my_ buddies! They were like brothers to me, mostly because I had nothing but four sisters I suppose. The only CCR album I ever bought was the first album I ever bought. "Cosmos Factory." It was just bursting with hits and I loved it. Our grade school music teacher used to teach us all kinds of CCR songs. He'd be pounding the piano and we'd be singing our hearts out and loving every moment of it! Those were some good times and I recall them with great fondness. Our music teacher also had a silver split window Corvette with a big block Chevy in it. Talk about all us kids thinking we'd have died and gone to Heaven if we had his car! Ha, ha! This was in Regina, Saskatchewan and CCR was _the_ most played and popular rock band on the Canadian prairies. Period. They were monster big. We didn't think about the war in Vietnam a lot. Didn't understand what it was all about and why they were fighting. I used to think all the jet fighters were the absolute bee's knees, and I wanted to fly one when I grew up. Now that I'm 63 I understand that Vietnam was a total mess that the US inherited from the French colonial times and that the US should have just said, "No thanks." The Vietnamese were almost entirely in favour of the communist party because of their very bad treatment from the French. I knew a guy who went there from my church. He was from the interior of BC and joined the US army thinking he was going to teach those commies a lesson. It was the most disillusioning experience of his life and he came back saying he would be a communist if he was Vietnamese. He said the South's government was so corrupt he almost couldn't believe the things he saw. Every little village chieftain was lathered with goodies from Saigon but everyone else had virtually nothing. All they did was spend their days in the steaming heat planting and harvesting rice, and making nothing from it except enough to eat and maybe some clothes on their back. He served in the central highlands and almost got killed several times. He said the South's army was riddled with communists and you could not rely on them for anything. If it came to a fight with the NVA or Viet Cong the South's army disappeared and left the Americans to do everything. Real fair weather friends. There were exceptions of course, but that is how the entire mess boiled down in front of his eyes as a kid from the mountains of western Canada. He was glad to come home alive and try to forget it ever happened.

John is tuned down a full step, he did that on a lot of songs. John would play a full step down while his brother Tom would play in normal tuning at the same time. For instance a normal E chord can be played with a D chord while tuned a whole step down. That’s how you get that swampy CCR sound.

It was a reminder of the nature of power and who does the heavy lifting without attacking the soldiers or the country stuck in the middle of a tragedy. It's a kind of lament. If I may suggest the movie “Into The Wild,” a girl in the movie does a great acoustic cover, plus, the whole soundtrack is done by Eddie Vedder, so it doesn’t get much better than that. There’s some gorgeous original songs on there by Eddie… “Hard Sun,” “Rise,” “Long Nights,” etc. They’re absolutely Stunning songs and the movie is amazing as well. Congratulations my friend Michael!! ...Now here you have your best new year gift!!....Today it is very difficult to find reactors like you who have never reacted to the best singer in the world, Dimash Kudaibergen, who has 7 octaves and 3 semitones vocal range (An alien) ... Maybe someone made you a request to react to Dimash, but you have not had time .... I am going to dare to recommend that you meet Dimash, because when you do it for the first time, your life as reactor will change forever ....For example, the number of views that you have today, it will increase by 300% in a matter of a few hours and you will get a lot of new subscribers.....But when you react to Dimash, don't do it with his most recent songs ... I recommend that you go to the year 2017 and react to the song that made him a global idol ... I mean the performance he did Dimash from the famous French song called "SOS D'un Terrien en Détresse", when he participated in the famous Chinese reality show The Singer in that year 2017 ... With that performance Dimash earned the reputation of being the best singer on the planet, so I recommend you start with that one .... You can also start with the other famous live version of that song that Dimash did the following year 2018 when he was invited to the famous Slavic Bazzar festival in Belarus .... Both performances are from another planet....Your life will never be the same again, after reacting for the first time to Dimash...And your first reaction to Dimash will be something very special, so I recommend that you do the best job of your life as a reactor, because that first video will be seen by thousands of people around the world, maybe millions...I hope to see you first reaction soon and please, remember me, because I will change your life forever!!

Would love to have a breakdown of Foo Fighters Monkey Wrench, but from the gig where Kiss guy played it. Mainly the solos and your reaction. One of the greatest band n' fan interactions ever 😁 Great video as always 😎👍

Great song. Used to play this out the ready room before launch from USS Constellation in 69/70 dropping some heavy metal on bad guys. Too busy trying to stay alive to notice that it was anti-war. Go figure.

Hey Michael could you do a guitar review of the new PRS SE Silver Sky? I'd love to see if it's worth buying. I've been wanting a SS but it's a 3k guitar. Maybe I'll settle for a PRS S2 i actually am from Maryland so I'd love to support MD made guitars

Just tune your guitar to the tune, even if it's not A440, makes it easier. One thing I don't hear much about John Fogerty is how he belts the hell out of it, vocally. What a rock-and-roll voice for the time.

I don’t think he’s in Open G tuning. I think that’s a standard tuning, down a whole step. So he’s playing like he’s in A. But it sounds like G. If you look at the chord shape it makes sense.

Massively influential, unique and talented band. Have to be top 10 ever and if you need a better guitarist than John Fogerty you got some serious shit happening ! Memory evoking tunes for a couple of generations of the 60s and 70s " new world order " .😎👍

It would be really cool if you could react to linkin park’s live performance of When They Come For Me at the iTunes festival 2011. It’s so different and strange compared to their normal stuff but it’s so good.

Fogerty used a full step down on MANY Creedence songs. Still does. One guitar is standard, the les paul is tuned down a full step. I could list every one but…

So if we're doing this in G standard tuning as you... I would recommend doing the C as a double bar chord while incorporating the 6th string on G. You can tell that gives it that bottom you hear in the recording, in my opinion.. and that's how I cover it

So I'm pretty sure the reason they're flat is they're just lip syncing to their record, which, since it was recorded on tape, was probably slowed down slightly after being recorded, either for effect or just by accident. You can see the same thing happening on several of AC/DC's records as well
