This is simultaneously the coolest and saddest thing, what an overwhelming amount of emotion. You wouldn't even have to be a fan of the band, this hits everyone on a core human level. Incredible.

16, sold out Wembley Stadium, video cameras all over the place, playing your dad’s song 5 months after his passing, being on stage with the Foo Fighters…. Tell me anyone who could of done that better… he absolutely killed it. The solo at the end was obviously not in the plan, Dave looks surprised, like “oh ok you are going there?” He probably rehearsed it but it was pulled in practice and this kid said nope, I’m doing it. 🤟🏻

You said, “Yeah, take a breath son,” but did you notice after he takes that breath he kisses the skin of the snare, right before his solo? I missed it the first few times I watched it until someone pointed it out to me. Shane was playing his father’s kit, after all, and he kisses his dad’s kit before he lets loose. Damn. Incredible.

I fucking LOVE the emotion that Michael has while watching this. You can 100% tell that he's putting himself and HIS kids in Dave and Shane's shoes in the sense of how connected they are to each other while they're playing. He's not reacting like a musician at all throughout the video. He's absolutely reacting like a dad would at a concert his kids are playing in, and absolutely nailing ever facet of the song they're playing. The timing, the creativity, the emotion. Absolutely PERFECTLY captured video, Michael.

Something lost is how this was a whole 6-hour show with an intense buildup to this cathartic release. Most of the performers there had also lost bandmates, something I didn't put together until later, but between that and the kids that were involved- from Violet Grohl singing Jeff Buckley (!) and Amy Winehouse, Roger Taylors' son Rufus somehow looking and sounding like Taylor, of course Wolfgang Van Halen absolutely slaughtering, and then to Shane... even Josh Homme's 5-year-old running out and grabbing his leg was a reminder of how fragile and precious life is even to these seemingly immortal rock gods. People also might forget that Foo Fighters itself was a cathartic exercise after the death of Kurt Cobain. And now 27 years later, coincidentally almost the same amount of time Cobain was on this planet, Dave himself is back there again and not only lost his best friend and brother in Taylor but lost his mom about six weeks earlier to this performance. So, the whole thing felt very "familiar" in the greater sense of the word. Obvious echoes of 1992 with the Freddie Mercury tribute on that very spot, echoes of 1994, but also very much family oriented. Sons, fathers, brothers, and heroes of musical and parental variety abound. It was all painfully beautiful.

I was at Wembley that night , the whole place was crying and so happy for Shane if you watched shane coming off stage getting a hugs from everyone and his mom was holding it together

I was in the stadium right below the hawk in the back. After almost 6 hours of very emotional moments, this was the highlight. The moment 80000 people started singing the chorus to this song, I broke down. I don't think there was a dry eye in the stadium. I have never seen that many people crying before. And Shane was an absolute beast behind those drums.

Ive watched Shane play My Hero about 50 times now. Its one of those Rock N Roll moments for all history. So good.

Shane is 16 and is a phenomenal drummer. You can tell he's Taylor's son. He plays "Heavy Handed" and I love it. Dave and Taylor play "Heavy Handed". That a rock drummer style straight up. It's pure adrenaline with heart and soul.

I’m not even a massive Foo Fighters fan, but the first time I saw this performance I was in the fetal position I was crying so hard. This kid put every bit of his anger, rage, and grief into that performance. But oh my goodness that last fill, to be played in front of a stadium full of people, and with men who would walk through fire for you, how cathartic must that have been for him? He’s got a huge future if he wants it!

I have seen more Shane Hawkins reaction videos than I care to admit, and this is by far the best one. You picked up on every detail of the performance, not just musically but perhaps more importantly on the emotional and human side of it. I agree, this performance is already a pretty historic performance. I cannot recall the last time I saw a drummer leave every single bit of their heart in a single song to this extent. You could hear and see the emotion driving him along... the restless left foot... the expression on his face... the sheer savagery of how he hit those drums. And at the same time, just CRUSHING the delivery. What a performance and what a reaction video. I am now a subscriber.

He is just 16. I have 4 boys and a girl. My husband died suddenly at only 45 a few years ago, and my mom died the same year. One of our older children was 16 and devastated. We were in a state of shock and fog the first 2 years. Just functioning was a struggle. That kind of grief shatters every part of you. The fact this kid can be so good and do this in front of a crowd that giant, who are singing for his dad, is beyond comprehension. Just performing in that setting most kids would choke. With the emotion that would take down most grown adults, I've never been so impressed in my life. He has made his dad so proud, and as my teen sons have said, "He will be able to date any girl in any high school in the world after this." lol. The term amazing is too often overused, but he earned it. This one hit me hard.

Even more than just a pallid ceremony, I believe this to be their true grieving. This song was raw.

He’s 16. I’m sure he has a slew of band “uncles” that will be there for him. Amazing performance. He was wearing his dad’s iconic shorts and some people are saying he kissed the drum when he bent down right before his solo at the end. I don’t know if that’s what he did, but… my heart!! 🥹

Watching this live, I immediately noticed how the band was taking care of Shane in this moment, making sure he was locked it. I was impressed with them, but more impressed with his ability to recognize it and make his adjustments. I can’t imagine playing in front of 80k thousand people, let alone at a memorial concert for my dad, who passed just months earlier. If he keeps it up, we might have a superstar on our hands.

I saw someone say this on the original video, but worth mentioning here, all that nervous energy, and the pain, he grieved on that drum set, and I'm sure it was such a relief for him to play it out for his dad like that. He will remember this day for the rest of his life. He absolutely killed it.

The best part of this whole thing was Dave guiding Shane to the tempo. I noticed it the first time I watched it and it gives me goosebumps. Shane freaking rocks. Did his dad proud.

Shane took everything has been feeling for the last 4 months and just poured it into those drums. What a moment! That was the best part of the night, definitely the healing we all needed.

Hey Michael. That was one of the best reactions I’ve seen … to anything. New subscriber here. I’m not a guitarist or musician and I hadn’t known about your channel previously. But I’m a huge Foo Fighters fan and I caught a lot of the tribute concert online and have been watching reactions to this particular video throughout the week. Your musician’s eye caught a lot of the nuances that many miss and made this even more enjoyable. Plus, your ability to relate as a father yourself was terrific. I finished Dave’s book a while ago and have a lot of respect for him as a person. I don't think there is any better feeling as a parent than seeing your child devolp and grow. Shane shows an appriciation for his father in the best possible way and also shows that family is far more than blood.

My Son, for his 10th birthday (7/29/11) asked to see the Foos on 7/30/21 in Milwaukee as his birthday present. I said HELL YES! After watching Taylor that night he is now learning the drums. It crushed him when Taylor passed. we both watched this in AWE! Your review is the best!

I had no idea that there had been a tribute concert when the video of Shane playing showed up in my playlist. For the next 5 minutes, I had tears streaming down my face. Then when I saw that WVH had played earlier? It connected so many dots for me.

I don't know if I love the performance or your reaction more! Watching you get so excited you just let your emotions and the f-bombs fly is THE BEST kind of reaction. And when you talked about the band being family-like and in tune with each other to stay together you were so spot on. I remember the first time watching this... Yes, I cried! I love the Foo Fighters, Dave Grohl et al.... The loss of Taylor was devastating. Seeing his son playing, with his "family" is just too emotional for words!

This was easily one of the most emotional moments in music I have ever watched. As a musician and a father of a young musician.

I never listened to The Foo Fighters before, but watching this tribute....I felt it in my soul! Brought tears to my eyes watching his son play his heart out. I know a great performance when I hear it. I'm a Foo Fighters fan now. Taylors legacy lives on and his son saw to it in spades. Respect

I remember Dave constantly looking back at Taylor throughout the concerts, half the time like they were the only two there playing for each other and watching this whole concert he rarely looked back at the drummer that was sitting in with them (probably the one he looked back at the most was Rufus Taylor but even then it was only a few times) but he checked back with Shane just as much as he would his father. He was clearly just as swept away with it as we were watching. He was just as proud as Taylor would have been in that moment!

As a rock fan I don't really listening to foo fighters but I started listening to some of their songs after watching the tribute concert and Shane performances was breathtaking ❤

So many moments in this show...but this was the best. How this 16 year old didn't destroy the kit is beyond me. About the 20th time I've seen it and the emotion still gets me.

This makes me WEEP every time. Cant think of Dave or Shane without being overwhelmed with this. I feel so lucky I got to see the Foo Fighters over Ten years ago at Virgin Mobile Festival at Pimlico in Baltimore. It was sooo fun. Dave was Hilarious. At one point he made their percussionist (not Taylor) do a triangle solo because he said “ we pay this guy way too much so he’s gonna earn it tonight!!”. At another point a set of keys ended up on stage and he stops and says “okay, lets see what kind of mother fucker comes to a foo fighters show” and he starts looking at their gym tag etc etc. i was also there with my Aunt who has since passed away. Such fond memories! Im so grateful 💜

I’ve watched this kid’s performance 4 times now and every time it’s brought a tear or two.

My YT feed brought me here....I subbed 60 seconds in. I watched the live performance from Australia which started at about 2 /3am. I thought I had shed all the tears I could. The live chat was awesome to be apart of, people from around the world sharing their love, sadness and admiration for musician after musician. But when Shane came on.......WOW I hit a new level of pride and grief, as tears and air drums fell and crashed. I could not only see Taylors influence in Shanes performance, but Dave has definately played a major part in Shanes style. Thankyou for emulating what we all were and are still feeling.
