Phrygian harmonic metal bluegrass! Love your shock and disbelief when you realize in the chorus they are going to the major 7 power chord (E5). So killer when he goes to the flat 3 chord and then sneaks in that quick flat 2 power chord before returning to the 1. Love how he sings major 3rds when it goes back to the 1 chord there. Epistaxis13 Glad to help, friend! 😊 I'd also recommend reaching out to Marcel Ardan, my personal favorite Bluegrass KZfaq instructor, if you have any more questions! He only charges $40 per minute of tabs... I am currently waiting on him to tab out the breaks for a few different performances of "Slow Train". Dude is freaking amazing! He has quite a few Tony Rice, and Billy Strings lessons on his page, check them out (if you haven't already, that is)!

Epistaxis13 Also, I feel like this is applicable even more towards Billy's songs than other artists.... Start slow (with a metronome), and then gradually pick-up the tempo! I'm not trying to be condescending, because that's literally the first thing any instructor would tell you. But, I often try to jump right ahead to the high BPM's for Bluegrass songs, and I alway end up regretting it. Haha. Don't be like me, nothing but bad times ahead! 😂

Heath Kish , thanks man. I did start off slow, 75% speed on KZfaq video. But I’ll give it a shot

That's how I got here too. But since then I've found some awesome music, in like 9 different directions. From either tracks that Micheal does, or links people drop in the comments.

@@garrattbassfishing7702 scales are just distances between notes. what's going on is billy is shortening those distances to make a happy "major scale" sound like an ominous "phrygian scale " one

Love your channel. Such a pure reaction. Gets me excited about playing every time I see one of your videos....a bit biased as a mandolin player but it all carries over. Again you do a great job interpreting the songs you choose. Great job and love your energy!

Have you heard of Khruangbin? They have this amazingly global sound that seems to infuse dub, funk, and soul without any lyrics. It's really cool, and their guitarist is a beast. I'm sure many on here would love to see your analysis. Here's a live video from about a week ago: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jKeVaLanqpyWiHk.html

Hey you did alot better then I'd have guessed. I mean that in the nicest possible way. It's amazing to go through the KZfaq and be able to see videos through the years, from him sitting on the couch with Papa Coffee. It's one of the beautiful tech things of the day for sure. I'm happy to see you do one I've loved for months.

Have you seen the cover of lonesome fugitive that he and marcus king does??? If not, your in for a treat as you would suspect. Not many people can take something from merle and make it better.

It’s as much fun watching you watch Billy as is it to just watch Billy!! You make me realize how much music theory I don’t know. 😳
