Great interview. Gus G is phenomenal live and has great note choices in his playing and writing. Saw him on a guitarist tour several years ago, well worth it, would like to see him again in concert.

Both the pickups and the new album sound interesting. Wouldn't mind having a set of blackfires in one of my builds.... maybe the twin neck...

What a cool conversation. I prefer hi-output pups. I can always use my tone & volume knobs. You can have a flashy technique but great tone keeps people interested.

@@creamwobbly pup is short for p-up which is short for pick-up. Oh and CGI is an acronym for computer-generated imagery. 😉

But what do you say if a flashy technique is part of the players tone, like MAB? No one wants to sound similar (unless you’re a death metal vocalist then you want to sound like Cookie Monster).

My eyes aren't what they once were, so if they could make these as solderless in the future.. I'd buy them. I don't really want to use EMG but do, cause of the solderless, but I've been sticking to mainly retroactive Fat 55's (which are incredible pups) and the 57/66's. But I'd be so into these if they were solderless.

Max know you worked with MAB, have you tried or thought about his new signature Sawtooth guitars, really simple yet right way to do the tones I never use spilt or tap coils not good tones to my ear.

Max I'm going to post a video of some of the guitars I bought on AliExpress . The shop is called glammer guitar's. I've got a Jackson RRX24-7 ,Jackson 6 string RRX bass , ESP DOVE TAIL LTD WITH EMG PICKUPS. The Jackson 24-7 was $350.00 the Jackson king V 6 string bass was $268.00 . And the ESPdove tail LTD . Was $289.09 I can't believe the craftsman ship

Funny you two talking about non pedal use, this was normal for us back 65 to 80, we didn't have pedals per say that today guitarist do. Yes fuzz was out but was novelty than, I had one device 60s tried out Vox Treble booster plug into guitar than cable, it held 9 volt battery , but was novelty.Ran couple amps 70 on Fender Super Bass an and Acoustic 150 with 2 2 x12 JBLs cabinets for and Bass an cab had 2 x 15' , was using 67 Firebird 12 string and with acoustic 150 super reverb spring tank longest ever seen and tremolo could get many great rhythm chords down at times closely resembling a Melletron

In many instances, a good amp is all you need. Some people might complain about the dry sound, but people use so many effects nowadays that you end standing out.

ALL boutique pickups are expensive! You know what makes them cheaper? More people buying them! Stop complaining about price! Terrible guitars are cheap for a reason! You want good stuff? You have to pay a bit more for them!
