A legend in the studio. A really nice guy too. I've met Brent many times. He always spoke to me for a few minutes. Humble and very talented.

Brent's a super guy and a killer player. It's neat that he was willing to sit down with Mitch for twenty minutes or so and share his knowledge and experiences.

Playing the last minute waltz you wouldn't expect him to have it on the twang pick up right? Brent Mason is simply amazing.

Glad Brent mentioned Buddy Emmons as an influence. He is one of the few steel guitar players that I enjoy listening to.

Love that Brent always mentions Reggie Young. Reggie is one of the greatest to ever do studio work. Just as Brent has been the last 30 years. Both are proof that nice guys don't always finish last.

Johnny has a pretty big collection of Teles made by various boutique builders. He tours Music Man stuff but records with tons of Tele style guitars.

I used to dislike prs guitars until i was introduced to the Prs Dgt model. Never owned such a great instrument. Comes strung with 11's and they feel like 10's. Prs forever.

PRS guitars are marvelous!!! But this tone for his playing sounds like a person with a plugged noise and a heavy cold trying to talk. Miss that twang!!!!

kadu almeida so you didn’t hear a word he said. He covers all styles and sounds. You want him to be just a tele player (I got no problem with that) but he has a job. Session work is what he does.

When you write a riff, you should get a piece of songwriting royalties... it IS COMPOSING. We don't see "arrangers fees" much anymore... but even arrangers don't come up with the melodic hook of the intro. There is a long history of guitar playing composers getting SHAFTED on their composing. One of the most famous stories of a guitar composer getting justice ... and finally paid(!) is a guy named Louie Shelton. Search his name, you'll like the story. - As for the PRS, I am really impressed with the (totally underrated) amps! That guitar Brent is playing... I'm sorry... I still don't get it... maybe I will someday... it just doesn't seem to have life. I'm a Tele player, that might be the problem.

songwriting is melody and lyrics....that's all that is copyrighted.....adding catchy riffs is the musician's job.....some songs are built entirely around a bass riff like "My Sharona" , in that case the bassist was in the band its entire existence and was financially rewarded in that way....as a session player, in brent's case you get more work.....as a songwriter I have to disagree....as a player i;d have to disagree as well.....far more difficult to write a great song than come up with riffs
@jensenbell

Song writing is melody and lyrics...that's right... and some riffs are melody. That's why the organ player from Procol Harem won songwriting credit for "Whiter Shade of Pale" in court. Readers... don't ever believe that musicians who compose a memorable melody, even if it is "catchy" is anything less than a composer. Guitar players, don't let yourself get taken.
@divanola
@divanola 10 жыл бұрын
Jensen Bell the "melody" of the organ part was composed in large part by Bach....so cut loose with some change, Procol.....
@jensenbell

Not funny, sorry. Pay composers... even of hooks. They often get 12 to 20% and luckily Judges mostly disagree with you and decide for the arranger who crossed into composing.

The Santana was the first and last PRS that mattered. The Santana was(is) a great guitar but everything else he made is just a different shaped version of that with cooler/hotter pickups. Hey, Paul! We'd all rather have an epic Gibson or Fender made out of all the great wood you hoarded.
