I was surprised when in Ghana, I found out that they eat collard greens as well.

There is a notable similarity of how I was taught to prepare and cook what we call soul food down here in South Louisiana. I feel right at home watching these videos. I find myself nodding my head and saying, “ Yep! That’s right! Yep!” Now I did learn more about how to handle collards. We make a pot called gumbo vert. We use fresh turnip greens, mustard greens, collard greens, beet tops, and fresh spinach with smoked ham hocks, pickle pork meat, and ham(cubed) it is so delicious! Thank you 🙏🏽 for your videos.

You be careful but that part now if you may like it but it don't like you for all the meat that you would put in yours we will put onions beginning onions in the middle and onions at the end and I mean a ridiculous amount of onions all the ingredients he threw in the pot everything would go in there except the salt we would add cumin red peppers play some hot sauce on it and you were good to go😊 I like what you did there😊

I was so blessed , my step mother taught me how to make collards ... I bought some at grocery store ..took leaves off and planted the stem after trimming the end ..and have collards growing in my yard..my step mom taught me how to do that ..same as lettuce and green onions .she taught my sister and I how to do the fried chicken to ..I learned how to make red rice on stove , I love idea of doing in the oven ..newly subscribed ..brought back great memories of my second mom ..thank you

So you just plant the stem and that's it? Cause I'm about to try. 👀 It doesn't need to dry out or anything? And what months should I plant them?
@lisalynnette8588
@lisalynnette8588 Жыл бұрын
@@denisela3403 when I clean them ..I take stem out ..cut off just a little at bottom ..stick in soil and keep moist. .my step mom used a planter on her porch to start ..I started in spot that got a little sun ..once started can go in full sun and keep miist

His voice reminds me of my grandfather's a little bit. Grandpa lived up north long enough that his accent wasn't as thick as Mr. Green's, but I definitely remember it.

Alright my brother....so I am from Mt Pleasant, South Carolina. It just so happens today I am cooking turnip greens, red rice and fried chicken. That's a heck of a coincidence. Anyway, great recipes, tips and content. Our ancestors from the African continent make a variation of red rice called Joffa rice...

Among my family surnames are Chisholm and McGill from Charleston and Georgetown respectably. My grandfather was Theodore McGill-Chisholm and he was a chef on the railroad. I have never been to low country but my mother and son have. They had a great time discovering their roots. I am sure I'll love learning from you.

I like the way you cook and explain why you do certain things, like smacking the greens to get the dust off, and not cutting the green which will release the nutrients when cooking, and why you use the lemon juice.

I love to cook period so naturally i enjoy watching others cook all around the world any culture..Anyway my great grandmother and her parents were from S.C also Gulla. I was listening to his accent and some words he pronounced like pot and and top lol remined me of her..but the thing about it is he kind od sound like a west Indian almost to me but not really 🤦🏾‍♀️.. my grandmother also moved to NYC when she got old enough to do so,but she never had a southern accent to me but of also didn't sound like a NYer just weird..Not one video i watched where people said they were Gullah sound County at all to me.. they just sound different but i cant desrcibe it. Anyway..Power to Our People ❤..I love Us for Real.💯

I always bake rice... lol Less water or Broth, bring to a boil on top. Stir, Cover put in 350° oven.. Especially Jambalaya types of rices.. 20 minutes then a stir, cover and put back in oven 10 min.. Never Sticky...Jollof Rice, etc...Onions, Peppers sautéed meats add liquid.. So cut back on adding liquid...

To my Gullah/Geechees... The name Gullah is in the Strong's Bible dictionary as a Hebrew name on the Hebrew section 1353 (Please look this up for yourselves) . Yah'll (we) are Hebrews. Our names were not mis-pronounced as Angola or Golas although some of our ancestors were from there. Geechees are the Yamasee or Yahmassee (Yah) (Yahweh) who were also Hebrews (Maroons, Guale, Yamacraw, Creek Aborigines) Cum-by-Yah, Ah-ha-Yah, We-Ben-Yah (We Son of Yah), Hallelu-Yah
