Idea for a useful video: Where to use oil and where to use grease. I use grease on the slide of my pistols as well as the cam action on my rifles and very lightly oil just about everything else - including the bore after cleaning. BTW: Cleanliness IS next to Godliness in terms of firearms. I clean every weapon upon firing - one round or 100. The lubricant I use - for no particular reason other than tradition is Hoppes - the cleaner, the oil and the grease.

Some of the Lucas stuff is quite good in the automotive field but guns are bit of a different story. I've generally used lithium and molly (molybdenum disulfide ) grease. But, on occasion I've used Machinist's extreme pressure lube too. Extreme pressure lube is used to lubricate the fixed center which gets shoved in the end of a spinning part on a lathe. The part you're working on is spinning on the center so you really don't want it to heat up and gall or seize. Just a little dab will do ya. I've used it to smooth out trigger pull but can't recall how well it worked.

Just occurred to me that I've also used machinist's "way-oil" too. Way oil is used on the sliding ways of machines to lubricate the sliding surface and to provide some corrosion resistance. Way oil is a slightly tacky oil so it will somewhat adhere to the vertical ways of a machine. Need to find some more but it's difficult, if not impossible, to get in small quantities.

Picked up some of the Lucas in the small bottle about a year ago and it’s very slick and works real good. And yes it cleans up very well. It helped my Glock 23 feed flat nosed practice ammo that used to FTF at least one per magazine. Now zero FTF with same ammo. Now I use it on ALL my automatics; 1911s, Glocks, ARs, AKs, this stuff seems to makes them all run smoother. It’s the only lube I use now. Just a few drops go a long way.

Rick, one of the things I do at work is repair high speed precision spindles (25,000 rpm with a tolerance of .0002") where bearings alone can cost 3,000. I'd love to send you a small sample of the Kluber grease we use. It's 150bucks for a 50g tube so I wouldn't expect you to run out and buy a tube. Sort of a thank you for all I've learned here. Let me know if you're interested.

Think Like A Cop - The Rest Of The Story upon further review this morning the "operating" temp range on this grease is listed to about 300F the point where it fully liquifys is 460F. Is that going to be Ok? Also the 150 is for a grease gun style tube. The little 50g tubes are only 30 bucks. I have a ton of it, I'll send you a sample anyway. Don't know anyone on a farm that couldn't use more grease.

I have been using a high temp synthetic bearing grease for years. In cold temps I use a simple synthetic motor oil. Back in the 80's I tried all the new gun lubes & paid a fortune for a few oz and they aren't any better than a tub of grease or a quart of synthetic motor oil. Some motor oils have a slight odor to them, the white, high temp grease is pretty much odorless.

I've been using the Super Lube synthetic on my pistols for the last year, but not the grease, I use their oil. Seems to perform as good as anything else. I like the small bottle with the tiny applicator tip because it is easier to get where I want, and it doesn't leak.

Lucas makes the best products. I use all lucas products for work. When ever i have to guarantee the job I use Lucas! Engine oil stabilizer is awesome, grease awesome, gun oil is awesome. That super lube is silicone lube mostly. If you want to go nuts Krytox grease. But Lucas is my go to. The coating it leaves is unbeatable. I don't bother with oil marketed specifically as gun oil. I use AMSOIL synthetic multi-purpose grease for slow moving parts, AMSOIL motor oil for fast moving parts, and CorrosionX for protection. Finishing up barrel cleaning with CorrosionX seems to make it easier to clean after shooting, but I've no objective evidence for it.

in Australia we don't have firearms for protection. however I am a engineer and work with intricate machinery .I use rp7 or CRC it's a anti rust very light viscous spray and when I clean my machinery a spray the stuff all over it cleans protects stops sqeeks and puts a film over the metal parts and it soaks in .and does not accumulate dust as for carbon graphite powder for door locks that's that's a nother option for internal lubrication .I hope this helps a little .Tim from Australia.

Hey brother, grease works great in warm places/climates like guns you keep on your person or those you keep in the house. What I like about grease is it stays where you put it, it doesn't run off and a year later your gun is still slick. Where you can get into trouble with it when it's on guns that get cold like those you may keep in the truck, shed, barn, etc in the winter months because the grease gets thick, can slow down your action and could cause malfunctions. The other problem with grease is it's a magnet for dust, dirt, lint, you name it. I would say though that for storing a gun grease will put the kibosh on rust. If you're looking an good gun oil try Weapon Shield, I've been extremely happy with it but I'll bet the Lucas works great too.

We use it for our train track switches. It has Teflon in it, so it penetrates, and embeds itself into the micro pores of the metal. I experimented with it, on my guns, and it is phenomenal. I put a lot of it on my bag, slides, etc, and fire off about 100 rounds, to let the extreme heat, and friction, work it into pores. Even when it dries, it acts like a nickel boron type coating. I am guessing, that the more frequent it is used, the more it works into the parts. For over 30 years, people have been using Teflon (slick 50,etc) to decrease friction in engines. This should be the same concept, I think, but could be wrong. It’s an experiment.

I used to use Rem oil on my guns but a couple of years ago I saw an oil online I thought I'd try called Wolf Premium Oils, this stuff is pretty good, keeps my 1911 and Ruger AR 556 in good working shape. Cleans good and lubricates really well. Goes a long way too. It's a little thicker than Rem Oil so it stays where you put it for the most part. I haven't seen it in a while but I've still got half of what I bought 2 years ago, and I clean my guns often. Once a month on pistols, or if I shoot 'em, I clean 'em.

Say hey Rick, I have been using SuperLube on my AR's for 2 years. It is best used during the summer only. I have found out during the N.Tx. winters to be too thick and slows down the actions of my firearms. Overall it is a yes in my guns. Just last nite while shooting at a local indoor gun range, the lucas held up better than just oil alone on my AR's. I am just saying as a shooter for 53 years things and products change for better or worse. But the lucas products do work for me best during the heat of N. Tx. summers. Regards, dogbugler, Dish Texas

Automotive industry has been the go to place for lubing my firearms for years. 10/40 oil, or synthetic oil or blend, and high heat bearing grease. Cheaper then what's sold as "gun grease/lube", and a quart of oil or tub or grease will last for years and years...

*Automatic transmission fluid and WD40* Firearms pose no extreme situations which a lubricant must deal. Thousands of 100-year-old-plus guns out there using *3-in-1 oil.* Is the case those polished surfaces that rub against each other aren’t all that smooth. Through a microscope, even the most highly finished metal surface still will have large voids, depressions, ETC. When companion surfaces meet and as friction increases, the high points are broken off, wear starts at the microscopic level. Lubrication works in two ways hydrodynamic and boundary Hydrodynamic lubrication are surfaces riding a film of lubricant; this lubricant fills all of the voids, the film serving to buffer keeping surfaces apart. This works until loads are applied. This is when lubricant is squeezed out of or between surfaces where grinding occurs causing wear. Boundary lubrication adds small pieces of solid material for a physical barrier between surfaces, keeping them from tearing each other to pieces. Solids are known as anti-wear or extreme pressure. (AW/EP) additives are microscopic in size and mixed for a packaged lubricant. Sincerely Bart

I use their oil grease CLP and bore solvent they work great my slides feel smooth my boat in my AR smooth the grease won't run so you can use it if you live in somewhere with high heat such as Texas and it won't run or leave or leave your surfaces so you don't have to worry about storing your weapon and then all your oil slipping out her been out the range of hiring in your in your Lube seeping it'll stick so that's why I use it and I said Lucas seems to be a great product for me I'm a former weapons repairment in armor from the Army so I'd like to think that I have a good idea about lubricating weapons considering I did that for 11 years so it's a go by me

After going through multiple products over the years, I settled on Slip 2000 and M-Pro 7 LPX oil. There are so many "so called" best oils/greases saturated on the market these days, i just come to the realization they all work pretty much the same. Some have a thicker consistency than others, but overall... whatever works for you run with it. I've never used the lucas products, but from what i've heard, they have a very good reputation. That said, i've heard many people argue the point, don't bother with all these oils on the market, just use good motor oil(synthetic) or even transmission fluid. Makes sense and a hell of a lot cheaper.

SYNCO is dope. You can go to their website and buy a quart of their multipurpose synthetic oil with PTFE (teflon) for like 30 bucks. Boom - several years of better than Rem Oil. You can also order it in gallons and stuff if you use a looot of oil. The grease is pretty good too but I prefer the oil.

superlube is sold at harborfreight if you have that store local. Used it for the first time recently for a few applications on lawn equipment and such.

I dont know a ton about gun oil, but ive heard a lot of people say petroleum based lubes are inferior to synthetic. For grease i always use slip 2000 synthetic i believe and for oil i go mobil 1 advanced 10w-30 i think. For lighter oil usually hoppes synthetic

Thank You Rick, I am going to give that super lube a try, I will be ordering some off amazon later today. Off topic and I mentioned it on a different one of your videos earlier but I bought me a Smith and Wesson J Frame 38 Special +P M442 Hammerless a few days ago I am pretty excited due to the fact this will be my first ever Revolver. All these years and I have never owned a Revolver.... Ok Rick Thank You for all you do have a great day.... BIG RON OUT.....

people are using Turbine engine oil on AR;s as it is meant for super high heat and carbon,, Best is Mobil 254. On a HG we used camshaft lube. it was the highest pressure tested lube you can find.works great on trigger groups

"Nat butter story" We used to buy a woman's lunch for picking us up a steak plate from "Quincy's" near her house. I told her not to forget the "Nat butter" for our yeast rolls. She said what's that. I said just ask them they'll know. The next night at work she was raising hell wanting to know what it was. She said they called the cook's out and said "tell them what kind of butter you want". Lol We couldn't even breath laughing so hard.
Beautiful gymnastics 😍☺️
