I have the 110 hunter in 30-06. Tree stand hook gave way and it fell and landed on a downed tree limb. Shattered the stock toward end of barrel. This stock is hard to find. Savage finally got them in ($174). I’m going to install myself. Hopefully I have no touching sides in the replacement stock.

I have a problem with your trashing Savage because you didn't get your response as fast as you thought it should be. Also, the barrel touching the stock could be as simple as the barreled action not being held center when tightening the stock from the factory. It's just so simple to even sand the barrel channel to increase the free float. I have many Savage rifles and their accu-stocks are hard to beat. There are of course the other stocks that are steel pillar bedded that sometimes do not make full contact and may need a bit of help. But none of them deserve a trashing. It really takes so little to tweak a Savage. And complaining about the trigger adjustment tool is really juvenile. You can actually do it with even s small bladed flat screwdriver. But let's get real it's easy and they give you a tool. I suppose you are trying to cover all the bases for anyone that would not like the Savage for any reason. Nice video but honestly it should have been more positive. I myself make sure to put the stock in the middle and retightening stocks. If I find the free float to be not enough, I take some sandpaper put it on a round dowel the right size and sand it until the free float is what I think it should be. Easy enough and not anything worth complaining about. It is a budget friendly rifle that needs very little tweaking.

My stock was tight to one side. I have the Apex Hunter XP 300 Win Mag. I disassembled the stock, realigned then tightened it down. Much better now. Savage put some glue or something like that on the adjustable trigger set screw. I can’t adjust the trigger pull because of it. I guess I could remove that but there must be a reason they did that. I assume they set them to the lowest trigger weight from the factory. Thanks for posting and sharing.

I’ve got 2 one in 6.5 Creed and one in 7mm-08 both rifles have that stock touching in the same exact area just like yours and I’ve never really thought much of it since it doesn’t really affect accuracy I might have them sent back to be restocked but as of now they’ve never given me too much trouble

Nice review. I have new 2022 stainless 110 in 7 Rem Mag. I had a 20 year old blued Savage 110 in 7 Rem mag. The new model 110 has a much better trigger.

I got one in .270 and so far it's better than my grandpa's remington 770

I have several of these rifles from savage and they all free float fine. Looks like you got unlucky.

Savage 110 Hunter in 223 Remington has a 1 in 9" rifling twist rate, NOT 1 in 10"! The better Savage magazine comes with Accustock equipped rifles only. The other Savage Axis and 110 non-Accustock rifles come with the cheapest plastic built in release magazines.

I bought one in 308. I had the exact same problem with the stock touching the barrel. I didn’t contact Savage. I just sanded the aluminum bedding until it was free floated. I don’t have the ability to hand load right now. I bought mine to hunt. I want to use 165 grain bullets. I have tried 8 different brand/ types of cartridges. It will group Remington 150 grain corelokt rounds at .80 inch. I cant find a 165 grain round that will group less than 2 inches. It just doesn’t like the more expensive rounds. It grouped 150 grain Hornady superformance rounds at 3 inches! Any suggestions on anything I can do to get the heavier hunting rounds to group? Any suggestions on a particular round to try?

I have one in 7mm-08. The good: - The trigger is excellent! - The stock is adjustable and decent - Acceptable accuracy Savage makes good barrels - 22” barrel length is nice in 708 The bad: - The magazine is easy to seat improperly causing feed malfunction. You have to be conscious about seating it just right which can be difficult in high stress in the field. - The cheek comb inserts are very narrow and thus not cheek comfortable. - The taller comb inserts block removal of the bolt for cleaning and are difficult to remove routinely. - The stock looks and feels cheap… even though is is not as cheap as it looks and feels. - The 90deg bolt throw and short round bolt handle yields poor scope clearance for low mounted hunting scopes… best to get a longer aftermarket bolt handle. - The action is not as smooth/refined as other rifles in the same MSRP price class. - The overall balance of the rifle out of the box is not excellent… it is a little front heavy. - The clearance between the stock for-end and the barrel is very small… i took a dremel to the stock to increase the barrel float clearance. The above deficiencies can be overcome through parts and interventions… yielding a very decent rifle. I got lucky and found mine at an outrageously discounted price and I’m happy with it as a training and junior hunting rifle for the kids. At normal retail price I would definitely rather step up to a Tikka. Cheers!

If you have a Savage rifle, do yourself a favor and buy a bore scope, and bore scope that rifle. I will be wasting the Savage barrel - junk. Chattering throughout. The nice thing about Savage rifles, you don't need to a gunsmith to change out the factory barrel; it is why I bought it. Don’t like the accuracy, buy a pre-fit barrel-Criterion barrel.
