Released in 1988 and the best Gainax anime ever made. In fact, its time dilation concept from Albert Einstein's relativity theory was quite similar to Christopher Nolan's 2014 film Interstellar. And this mecha (Gunbuster) is one of my favorites among super robots in anime.

The tension and coolness of this scene is increased if you take the way this fight played out in Super Robot Wars T into account. The Earth Federation brings everything it has to this fight, battleships, mobile suits, super weapons, and of course, the titular super robots. The colony laser fired 8 times in quick succession and exploded. It's also mentioned that many other tactical weapons were deployed to attempt to turn the tide. All star mechs like the mazingers, shin getter dragon, gaogaigar, hi-nu gundam, gunbuster, and many others fought like hell to repel them. Even the main antagonists show up to help. Even with all these factors, they only managed to destroy around 55% of the space monsters before the defensive line was broken (granted several other powerful entities crashed the battle making it exponentially more dificult, however the point that it took all of these powers coming together to have a chance of potentially repelling the space monsters still stands). And in the original series as seen in the video, Gunbuster pretty much solos all of them.

People asking for a remake don't understand just how detailed the art already is. It simply isn't necessary, they just need to FINISH IT, the last few episodes, to replace the last one in black and white with only numbers. IN the same style as the rest and it is perfect as an ending for this series.

@@harryrundle7897 Sorry, I meant that the last episode of this series was in Black and white to save costs. They also saved costs with still images and showing numbers of casualties and ships, rather than action scenes. With as little CGI as possible at least so it won't disturb the art style and in the same style as the earlier episodes.

@@DehnusNorder i don't believe it was black and white to save costs, it was just an artistic choice. I read somewhere that doing it in black and white actually made it more expensive. I'm currently at the end of my first playthrough of SRW T and I decided to go nuts upgrading Gunbuster since I'm a huge fan of Anno's work. I'm one shotting most bosses. I love it.

I love how confident they are as soon as they combine the Gunbuster, specially Noriko who was crying and terryfied just one episode ago.
