I've owned a 516 Patrol since gen 1 back in 2010 and it's the ONLY gun I'll never get rid of. I sold my AK because the 516 is my apocalypse rifle. It's literally perfect.

I love mine, the thing is built like a tank! It is my go if needed.

Just to add, the SIG 516 comes with an H2 buffer and a standard milspec charging handle by default. Most SIG 516's came with A2 flash hiders but the limited run of G2 uppers that SIG made in 2019 came with MCX style 3-prong flash hiders that are compatible with SIG's suppressors. Unlike the MCX, the 516 barrel doesn't have a tapered shoulder so no adapter is needed to attach a different muzzle device. Earlier 516's have full auto profile BCG's while the later ones are profiled more like the AR-15 enhanced carriers. Also, Midwest Industries makes a replacement M-LOK rail for the 516. Unfortunately, they do not make one that extends beyond the gas block. Lancer makes a carbon fiber one that does, but only for the 716. Lancer makes carbon fiber rails for both the 516 and 716. (I'm not counting the 716i TREAD which is a different beast altogether.) Lastly, in the video there were comments about the chunky gas block and I'd like to point out there are three different gas blocks for these rifles. The one in the video does seem to be the most common type, but there is a version without the bayonet lug that's lighter and another variant that's almost skeletonized that's ugly as hell but much lighter than the other two. There are a lot of variants of the 516 and a lot of little changes made to them over their production run. Though the 716 is even worse in this regard and is compatible with even fewer parts from DI guns.

I can’t recommend enough the Midwest Industries Mlok handguard they make for the Sig 516. Super easy to install and made the upper so much lighter.

Me and my brother each have Sig 516 Patrol and they are great rifles - reliable and accurate! They were the last two imported in our country and a lot of people are asking to buy them but they are not for sale!

I have a Sig516 gen2 upper and in a few days my Caracal 816 comes in! I wish the American Caracal had the quad rail

Been using my 516 for a little over a year and a half, eats like a champ, gets searing hot, and I myself changed the entire bolt carrier group for an LWRC piston one since it's slicker and looks nicer, and it just powers through anything I throw at it. It's built like a tank, and you can find their uppers here and there, just recently there was a department trade in of the 11" barreled ones, moderately used, they're pretty cheap and despite having a few thousand rounds put through them, they refuse to quit. Brick shithouse uppers with the only downside being their weight. Love mine to death.

Love the 516 uppers, but man do they got hot. It becomes real clear why all the full auto fire demos Sig did when it first came out ran the old broom handle. The m27 home gets spicy quick.

I have one from the first version that I have shot only a few times and it has performed up to expectations. There are a few countries that use the 516 such as Mexico: Transitioning into the general service rifle of the Naval Infantry Force. Peru: SIG516 and SIG716 variants used by Subunidad de Acciones Tácticas of Peruvian Police. Switzerland: Used by the Mobilen Einsatzpolizei of the Aargau Police. Ukraine: Used by the SBU and GUR. As you can see, this rifle is still well received based on it's reliability and endurance.

Just picked up a new in box 516 gen 2 fde. Its a sweet rifle. However, no bayo lug and the rail does not wrap around the side of the gas block

It took Sig 10 years to finally make a rail go around the gas block.

Last time I checked (its been a few years) the 516 was completely out of production and even spare parts were extremely difficult to find. Its a nice gun, for your _forgotten_ _weapons_ style collection.

My 516 Patrol is awesome. It is heavy, but I love the quad rail and piston. I HATE MLOK. I have two rifles with "modern" rails and I can't stand that mounting system. I'm in my mid 50s, weak, fat, and out of shape and I won't give up my quad rail for a lighter gun lol. Great accuracy, never had a single malfunction with any ammo, and it loves 77gr stuff for longer range (300 or less, being honest). I'll never get rid of it.

You said the upper is the same spec as an AR-15, but I assumed the rail was HK 416 height rather than AR-15 height. I believe the MCXs are also higher to accommodate the op-rod.

I put the POF roller on all 4 of mine. I got Caracal Sig uppers direct from sig for a song. Freakin best upper ever. I fired it side by side with a 416 and a LWRC. Cant say anything was better than my sig uppers. Liked the LWRC for weight but sig was a little more robust and liked more types of ammo. Hate sig for selling it out to caracal!

I had a 516 and only gave it up because for one they stopped manufacturing it so huge issue there .. but also I hated the hand guard - horrible. I did all the research from watching the video of the guy doing the over the beach sand mud tests and all to understanding the short stroke pushrod system. If they would have continued making it I would have just upgraded to the newest generation.
