For $50 more you can regularly get the Strike Eagle gen 2 1-8 with a Vortex scope mount from PSA. I don't think it has the off settings between each brightness setting, but you still get a lot of lpvo, and a mount, for $299 with free shipping.

The venom optical clarity is far better than the SFP 1-8x strike eagle. 1x is vastly better as well.
@Mitsurugi2424
@Mitsurugi2424 Ай бұрын
@@JGoodZX6R Well, you say that. But I have run both and didn't notice a huge difference. And, since the Strike Eagle already has really good clarity and an extra 2x magnification, it's still a good compromise.
@JGoodZX6R
@JGoodZX6R Ай бұрын
@@Mitsurugi2424 did you look through them at any sort of distance like 300-400 yards? If you just looked through both in a bright store at 50 yards or something, you probably wouldn’t notice much of a difference. And did you properly adjust the ocular focus for the best 1x? The newer glass on the venom is much better.
@Mitsurugi2424
@Mitsurugi2424 Ай бұрын
@@JGoodZX6R Like I said, I *ran* them both. They were on different guns during the same outing. We only had 400y, probably closer to 385-390. The x8 was much more useful at distance, and the x1 on the strike eagle was fine. I saw very little difference in clarity and quality between the two. So little, I oped for the one with better magnification. Even if the venom is a little better in terms of clarity, the strike eagle is cheaper, with more magnification, and still had good glass. It checks more boxes, and is still above average in the places the other scope excells. It's fine if you prefer the venom, you don't have to justify your purchase to me. They are similar enough that it's all about preference. We aren't comparing a monstrum to a trijicon here.

I’ve had one of these for a little while, wider fov than every lpvo but the Khales K18i Gen 2 to my knowledge (that thing has an insane 150ft of 1x fov) The glass quality (at least in 1x distortion wise) is better than my eotech Vudu 1-10 The bezel is very thin Reticle is great Illumination is probably standard, they say it’s less that the strike Eagle 1-6 had so that kinda sucks but it’s not any dimmer than any other budget lpvo Magnification throw is hella stiff like many lpvos but when you push it hard it is extremely smooth and almost feels effortless Turrets do have a little play and mush but are super easy to use audible and tactile and are 1/4 moa adjustments Illumination knob with off positions between settings is great Comes with a battery, tool for all screws, throw lever, sunshade, flip caps, manual, reticle manual, and a cleaning cloth Turrets have a zero reset function (can remove turrets and set them to zero once the scope is zeroed) Overall the scope is an amazing scope in general regardless of price Biggest cons: Weight Not daylight bright No built as tough as something pricier Glass (if you’re a snob) If vortex build this same scope at a higher quality level it would be the shiznit, reticle could stand to have more range and brighter illumination Weight could be cut down And glass quality could be improved (not bad at all to me but obviously it could be better considering price) If you’re looking for a budget lpvo and fiber wire isn’t your thing then I’m not sure you can beat this right now For those wondering, The most comparable optics are the sig tango MSR and the primary arms slx 1-6 gen 4 ACSS Aurora reticles kinda suck Only 120fov Sig has an atrocious bezel (if that matters to you) Comes with mount Roughly the same fov as vortex Oldest and therefore likely the cheapest in glass/build quality

For me it's between this Vortex Venom, the PA with a ACSS Nova reticle and the Swampfox Arrowhead with the MIL reticle. They all seem to have many strong points, but at the same time each seems to have one shortcoming and it's a different shortcoming for each one. I'm not crazy about the Venom's reticle. I don't know why the Nova doesn't have off stops between the brightness settings. And the Arrowhead is older technology relative to the other 2. I'm planning to use the LPVO on a bolt-action rifle shooting at shorter distances of 50-200 yards, so it's not going to be used as is typically done with an AR-type rifle. If price was no object, I'd go with the Vortex Viper PST 2 because for me it has no downside other than its price.

Small Eye box is biggest complaint but man alive it does exceptional in every other aspect. Once you figure out the KL-BOX reticle it makes it a breeze to quickly estimate a range and the holdover for it. Great clarity and brightness from 1-8x regardless of price being factored in.

I have been comparing the Venom to PA SLX Nova and Sig 1-6 MSR. So far eliminated the Sig due to least clear glass. Now, between the Nova and Venom, I am having a really hard time deciding. Venom has a wider FOV. The illumination is not as bright as Nova, but brighter than Sig. And it doesn't bloom in the dark due to my astigmatism, like Nova does. Nova is stupid-bright. Make sure you turn the knob the right direction in the dark, or it will blind you. I like that Venom has OFF positions in between the brightness levels. Nova's elevation holdovers are more visible, but no windage "Christmas tree." I know everyone is in love with the SLX Nova, but is the glass actually better than Venom? Or is it only the super bright reticle that gives it the edge? Does anyone else have experience comparing them side by side?

Upon further examination of the LPVOs I mentioned above, I have learned the following: On 1x, Primary Arms SLX Nova has the most distortion of the 3. It was making me dizzy in close quarters. Vortex Venom was better. And SIG was the best. I had my son check and confirm my findings. On the 6x, the results were reversed, which is what I must have paid the most attention to previously. PA was the best, followed very closely by Vortex, and Sig was notably worse. Now I need to choose whether 1x or 6x is more important 🤷‍♂️ Any thoughts?

@@dimitriypm I'm looking at the Venom and Nova as well. For me the SIS is out of the picture even though it's a great deal with the included mount. The other one I'm looking at is the Swampfox Arrowhead with the MIL reticle. It's sort of a "darkhorse" compared to Vortex and Primary Arms as not many people talk about it as much. Based on what you've observed...IMO 1x distortion is easier to deal with than 6x distortion. I wonder how the Swampfox would stack up.

They could have very easily called this a Strike Eagle 1-6 Gen 3, because that's basically what it is, but I'm sure that many people as soon as hearing "Strike Eagle" will think of a garbage optic due to the reputation (justified or not) of the past versions.
