@@joe.smith8 The SBs were formed in the second world war and have been a fully operational unit continuously since then, In 1947 the Navy took over the Army Specil Boat Section, and everyone was transfered, and they were renamed the Special boat Company in 1951. In 1974 they were renamed the Spaecial Boat Squadron, the and in 1987 they were finally called the Special Boat Service. Unlike the SAS who were disbanded Totally in October 1945!! Do buck up here, the SBS is the only SF unit in NATO to have continued operations from WW2.

SSB was the Original Special forces of the UK in ww2 which became known as the SBS Later in the war. 1 Gurka is worth more than a whole squad of conscripted troops in the Burma jungle. Quote from my Great Uncle.

@@thetruthhurts7675 tbh it's more that they both do similar operations. I'm willing to bet they're both in Ukraine right now. My point is that Gurkhas are definitely not replacing special forces tasks like OP states.

Ukraine is dealing with a lot of trench warfare due to lack of a steady supply of functional assets that can allow movement and maneuver warfare. Even with lots of assets trenches do a lot of good, they establish your line, its another static position for the enemy to deal with, they provide an artillery sponge for the enemy to focus on, storage of supplies, trench systems can later be turned into full on fire bases.

If a mortar is that close to you, you're dead regardless. One mortar can kill everything within a 30m radius. If you're in the trench, ducking down, _only_ a direct hit is likely to kill you as you're protected from the shrapnel.
