It is normal to be flat as the piece goes. However I am so amazed by how this wonderful masterpiece has been transcribed by human voice. Thanks for sharing. F - down to E major 😂

Yaroslaviya -- never heard of him Here is a list of four performances that to my ears are better: Philharmonia Orchestra/Benjamin Zander, London Symphony Orchestra/Valery Gergiev, Vienna Philharmonic/Leonard Bernstein, and SWR Symphony Orchestra/Michael Gielen.

It’s beautiful, but I’m sorry, I can’t hear all the notes from the score… especially inn the low register, so… some of the important dissonances are not emphasised enough. I have my own version, for Moog synths, in my profile, if anyone wants to hear :)
@neilmurphy75543 жыл бұрын
Strange. Nothing can really compare to Mahler's symphonic vision and phrasing and suspensions. This sounds laboured unfortunately, but understand the wanting of it to work and the thinking it might. But no.

strange that you hear something that is not in this performance -- Mahler is my favorite composer and I feel in my heart that he would love this arrangement, but that's just my humble opinion....so yes, most of us love this also...
@neilmurphy75543 жыл бұрын
@@arlenehathaway3076 How can you possibly make the ridiculous claim that I am hearing something that is not in this performance. Since Mahler used solo voice and chorus in some of his symphonies I think it is reasonable to assume that he rejected such a notion for this symphonic movement. Also, removing the Adagio from its context in the Symphony #5 and presenting it as a concert 'bonbon' for voice is not only problematic but pretentious. In art, not everything works regardless of the sincerity in the attempt. I accept and respect your opinion however.
@themajor20723 жыл бұрын
@@arlenehathaway3076 Even if by some miracle you could argue Mahler would approve of the arrangement, which he wouldn’t, this performance still has one absolutely massive problem, the choir gets more and more flat as it goes. By the end literally the entire choir has gone a half step flat, meaning it begins in F Major and by the end it’s practically in E just because their pitch flattens so severely after the recapitulation. Even if that didn’t happen though, too much is missing from the texture for this to have anywhere close to the color and vitality of the original. I can’t hear the harp arpeggiations at all so I assume they are just not there, the human voice can’t replicate the percussive effect of pizzicato (something the bass part especially needs), there is no portamento for any of what would be high string parts, the arrangement has to cheat with the first violin part by taking all the really high stuff down an octave (a necessity as the part goes well beyond any reasonable singing register), and all you have to do is listen to the climaxes of this and a normal performance to realize that this choir (and let’s be honest, probably most if not all a capella choirs) doesn’t have 1/10th the emphatic force of an orchestral string section.

@@themajor2072 nonsense
@themajor20723 жыл бұрын
This performance is all flash and no bang, style without substance. Even if you can forgive what is lost in the arrangement, and between the loss of the colorful subtleties of the string section like portamento and pizzicato and the completely absent harp part that is something I’m personally not gonna do, the choir goes really flat at the recapitulation (about the 7 minute mark), and by the 8 minute mark they are so flat they are practically singing in E Major. I highly urge any listeners to try listening to the first minute and then the last minute back to back and your ears will show you exactly what I mean.
