CUBAN OVERTURE is the great "lost" piece by Gershwin. Thank God more and more orchestras have found it.

The internet can be such a curse, but when it brings Gustavo and the Los Angeles Philharmonic into my house - when I could never afford to see them in person... what a gift!

Hear Here! Oh Yes our intrepid conductor is an avatar. A god incarnate...just glance at his figures and how the reptations of preformers he's focused his insight on have skyrocketed over the last four years anyone who doesn't hear it and now thanks to the net doesn't see it doesn't know genius. Just listen to him conduct Devorack's New World Symphony! To call it breataking is to detract from its absolute brilliance. I'll wager that every performer whose played a score under his baton has gained form their interaction. Like the cobbler/play maker in the opening scene of Julius Cesar, Dudamel soars as a mender of old souls or old soles, whichever you happen to hear. We all know what happened to Cesar on the eyes of March, just as we all had known what Devorack had sent us from the New World. So why do we crowd the doorways to hear it again? Aren't we there in both cases in order to see what will happen to us when he mends our old souls? Sure we are. And allow me to say it, brothers and sisters...something magical will happen to us when are mended under the magic in their batons. Yes thank GORE for the NET. And Dudamel. And Shakespeare, whoever he turns out to have been.

I love watching Gustavo Dudamel conducting. He’s amazing and so enjoys what he does! I wish I could see him “live”, but in the meantime I’ll carry on with Utube. Thanks for posting!

There is another version which is shorter, but which has been taken down. I thank God that this version has survived. I live for this version of the piece. Preceded by the magnificent, too=little played Cuban Overture. Also, I love how Gustavo lets soloists determine their own pace. He showed it in his rendition of the Rhapsody with the clarinetist and here with the Concertmaster. Glorious, lets the piece breathe so deeply.

26:35 is the single most lyric note I have ever heard in my entire life. I paused the video there because I was going to go do something away from my computer, but when I unpaused it I had to rewind because I was POSITIVE it was a singer. That's incredible.

Interesting comment. We're 14 years into the 21st...so what do you call "the late 20th century? By assigning "the best" to Dudamel, you close off Bernstein, Abbado, Tilson-Thomas, Gilbert, Maazel, Boulez, Haitink, Muti, von Karajan.....and dozens of other incredibly talented conductors. Superlatives in the arts are dangerous things. I don't think there is a "best" in any of the arts. Art stands on their own and, as always, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Don't close yourself off by deifying one artist over another.
@Lengo6710 жыл бұрын
Bob Burns By 'late 20th Century" I mean 1980 and beyond. You mention Bernstien and Tilson-Thomas, but these are mid twentieth century, and you didn't mention Eugene Ormandy. So lets not play games and make statement like "superlatives in the arts are dangerous" and "you close off....". Applause is always welcomed by performers and that validates my opinion of Dudamel, and I haven't closed off anything yet, but I will now --- your intellectual response to emotional music! I suggest you get more emotional about music and leave your intellect behind. YOU MAKE NO SENSE! Music invokes emotion, not intellect, and you aren't an instructor of either of these..
