Yes, the horror of being charged after a thorough investigation... It's proven in the court. There is no 'presumed guilt' that matters. You just don't want it to go to trial at all. Unless you can be sure of who shall "inherit". However, a notorious example of where granting powers to oneself or faction can go "sideways" is gun control and Weimar Germany. It wasn't the Nazis that instituted gun control in Germany between the wars, it was the Christian Democrats and similar groups, in part to deal with the political street violence, most of it between the NDSAP and the KPD, and also the rampant street crime going on at the time in large German cities, especially Berlin. When the Nazis came to power in 1933, they actually "liberalized" the gun laws...well, at least for THEMSELVES.

This has been happening to people in this country for years, the system has allowed some judges to indict people without evidence and forced the people to hire a lawyer to have it thrown out. That is what I was convinced of until I saw first hand exactly how it could work, it has been this way in some cases for years.
