I remember writing an essay before entering WVU in 1983. I was admitted on my merit, my GPA. I also had to pay off my loan for my 4 year degree in Nursing. I had NO HELP from anyone. I have worked since I was 15 years old" I just turned 59" 44 years of my life working hard, paying taxes, raising 3 son's. I still have " if I live" approximately 10 more year's of hard work left in me, then I may retire or at least work part-time. I've tried to do my best in this life. I was raised by my daddy, he worked his entire life, he took great care of his 6 children, we we're lower middle class. If you work hard, stay away from people who have no life goals you can live a decent life in the USA, it takes hardwork and grit. I tell many people who think about going into Nursing, take a state CNA class first, work and go to a technical school get your LPN license, then study for your RN program.

Asians have always pushed education on their children. I remember, in the early 1980's, a Vietnamese restaurant I use to go to on a weekly basis. The kids of the owners would bring their school work there...do it...then start busing tables, taking orders, etc. It was a family business...so they could get away with it. A few years later, I went there when I was visiting the city again. The oldest son was running the place with the assistance of his parents...he had gotten a Master's degree in Business by that time. His 2 brothers had also graduated from college...one in computer tech and the other in law. His 3 sister also had graduated....one as a medical doctor, one was working on her Masters in Engineering and the youngest was going into a Master program in Mathematics. What the issue is here, is that Asian/American's value education. They push their kids to do well. These kids in turn put in the WORK to do well. That bends the curve for ALL other college students. In other words, they show up the other ethnic races up, be they White, Black or Hispanic. This is an issue for those groups to solve...not for the Asians...but that cannot be allowed to happen. We might hurt someones...feelings.

Have you ever considered that a diverse body of students on campus actually benefits white students by exposing them to different populations, cultures and those with experiences that they will encounter in the real world? It is a disadvantage to be ignorant about the societal experiences and positions of 'others'. The universities by including race as a consideration for admissions can provide a cultural balance that provides their students with a greater set of skills to interact with the various people that are in the world. When it comes to solving problems in reality, those who can interact across a more diverse range of cultures are more likely to produce results that are more broadly acceptable, effective and beneficial. For example, it would be difficult to work with people in Japan without knowledge of Japanese culture. It is similarly difficult if there is no understanding about various domestic cultures here in the US. I think race matters because there are different experiences (perspectives) within the American society. America could try to pretend it is culturally white but that myth has never been true. A person could more easily pretend the left half of their body did not exist than to deny the diverse cultural (racial) reality of America.

They would go to the polls early, just to "cancel out each others vote". That used to be the same with *_LOTS_* of couples back in the day! Probably only one out of ten thousand marriages today could survive that!

@Kyra A Poem by Steven F Gooden We're never as strong, as we are until we have to be. Never Do as much, unless the need we see. Only give our best, when we fail at mediocrity. We Love rather than hate when we admit we're one humanity. We always give more, when compassion moves our heart with unbridled generosity. We Become more of our potential when we are made to see, that clearly our minds can believe in unfathomable possibilities, while seizing every opportunity, here in lies one's destiny. More than our scars, higher than our stars, for in our flaws are what defines our features, they're uniquely ours, as human creatures. We can run faster than on our slowest day. Reason better, and thinking it through all the way, regardless which direction our emotions may sway. We can find our voice when speechless, our strong words with meekness and our Courage in weakness. Always patience not quickness. Silence for peace than loudness, quietness of fear, not hopeless, for time and effort are equally unbiased. We are more than the stories we're told, we're the one's we write, each page unfold. We are the sum of our Lies and truth, fantasy, fiction, faith, and myths, no matter how uncouth. These are what shape us, our lives lived is the proof. We can be more right than wrong. More just than judge. More godlike than unlike. Reflecting Sunlight in our darkest night. Providing refuge. Never more alive until we die within and begin again.
