This might be your single most important instructional video yet. Finding ALL the tritones based off the CAGED triad shapes is game changing. While just noodling around, spend that time noodling for the all tritones for each key and visualize their associated caged shape to help lock it in your memory.

I took your Artist Works for a year and got a lot out of that. I've gotta say, the best advice you've given, in my opinion, is to learn songs. That sounds obvious, but I have spent countless hours just noodling on the guitar. After spending a lot of time getting familiar with CAGED, I took your advice and just put some songs on that I liked. Man! When you do that, you are able to figure out on your own what these artists are playing. You can find the position they're playing in and figure it out for yourself. You get real examples of the application of the CAGED system. Not to mention learning to play in time and keep up with the band and develop more technique. I've got a long way to go, but don't we all. Really really cool! Thanks for that advice and thanks for the lessons.

Hey Guthrie, I caught you on Rick Beato's channel playing and talking about your philosophy on the guitar. I thankfully am just knowledgeable enough to keep up with you as you teach this good stuff. I have been exploring the "CAGED" system and didn't know how much weight to put on this area of learning, but it seams to be the key to improvising what I'm feeling at the moment and it sounding good. I love to noodle and explore the sounds on my guitar and make it pleasing to myself, wife, and DOG🤣. I'm excited to catch up on your past videos and soak up your teaching philosophy. Peace

@getwhatyougive
@getwhatyougive Ай бұрын
@@MOAB-UT triads = 3 note chords, doesn’t it? That’s what he meant when he told me.
@MOAB-UT
@MOAB-UT Ай бұрын
@@getwhatyougive Sure, TRI iad mean 3 but there are various types e.g., Major, Minor, Augmented and Diminished. Further, my man is quite advanced. he plays 64'a aka second inversion triads with the 4th and 6th above the base note as well as 1st inversions where the 3rd of the chord is the lowest note and 2nd with the 5th is the lowest note. To really access all these sonic possibilities I think it is super important to first learn all the notes on the neck. If not, it will be near impossible to really understand and play the triad and related inversions all over the neck. From there he is jumping into, and bouncing between various scales as well as modes. I am still learning but it's slowly seeping into my brain. I find instructors like Guthrie a bit too advanced for me. He assumes I understand and can play things he can which is just not the case. He sure does sound good though! Cheers!

@MOAB-UT
@MOAB-UT Ай бұрын
@@getwhatyougive I do as well but there is nothing simple about Guthrie Trapp. I can jam on two chords for an hour- in fact I just did. I used an open G tuning and fingered a D (add and subtract some notes for flavor- use your pinky to add on 3) then fretted strings 4 and 5 (thinner) as a chord (not sure what it is), at fret two and looped it. It actually sounds amazing- try it. Then, try to solo over it. The fun part is you have to HEAR what sounds right. Key is almost irrelevant since it is an alternate tuning- very altered. D, G, D, G, B, D. Same tuning as WILD HORSES- Stones (that I was practicing.) On the thin E string, I will start you out- fret 3, 5 and 7. On the B string, fret 3, 5 and 8 like the major scale pattern. After that, you are on your own! It sounds really cool...but not that simple. Sorry.
